| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1969, UTSA first opened its doors in |

| 9 | 9 | | 1973 with around 650 students enrolled at the graduate level; the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | university has since grown significantly, with campuses throughout |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | San Antonio and a robust online-learning program; UTSA currently |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | serves more than 34,000 students of diverse backgrounds, nearly |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | half of whom are the first in their families to attend college; it |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | has also led the way in Latino student success, earning a Seal of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Excelencia from Excelencia in Education; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Among the top four percent of research universities |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | in the nation, UTSA holds a Tier 1 status from the Carnegie |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Classification of Institutions of Higher Education; faculty |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | researchers from the university have secured more than 390 research |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | awards totaling over $100 million; in addition to expanding |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | discovery activities, those awards have furthered collaboration |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | between faculty researchers and partners across the nation and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | provided students with exceptional learning opportunities; |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | moreover, the university has partnered with UT Health San Antonio |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | to advance biomedical research through the San Antonio Life |
|---|

| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, UTSA also received three National Centers of |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity recognitions from the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | National Security Agency; boasting one of the largest |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | government-university-industry cybersecurity ecosystems in the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | nation, UTSA is home to the National Security Collaboration Center, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | the Cybersecurity Manufacturing Innovation Institute, and the |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | School of Data Science, the first of its kind in Texas; and |

| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, An engine of social and economic prosperity, UTSA |

| 35 | 35 | | has graduated nearly 35,000 students in the last five years; the |

| 37 | 37 | | growth will serve to prepare even more Texans for the workforce; and |
