| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Acclaimed chef Johnny Hernandez has made vital |

| 6 | 6 | | contributions to the San Antonio community through his charitable |

| 7 | 7 | | endeavors and his dedication to promoting the culinary vitality of |

| 8 | 8 | | the Alamo City; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Chef Hernandez first rose to prominence with the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | establishment of his flagship concept, La Gloria, in 2010, though |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | he began his career as a chef in 1994, when he opened True Flavors |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Catering; he has continued to make a name for himself as the founder |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and president of Grupo La Gloria, a portfolio of signature |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | restaurants and culinary projects that include several locations of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | La Gloria as well as The Fruteria y Botanero by chef Johnny |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Hernandez, Burgerteca, and Tortilleria La Gloria; he has been |

| 17 | 17 | | featured in Texas Monthly, Bon Appétit, and Food & Wine, among other |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | publications, and on such popular television shows as Top Chef, |

| 19 | 19 | | Simply Ming, and Beat Bobby Flay; he was also invited to cook at the |

| 20 | 20 | | James Beard House in celebration of San Antonio's tricentennial and |

| 21 | 21 | | to serve as a guest chef for the White House Cinco de Mayo |

| 22 | 22 | | celebration in 2016; and |

| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, An integral part of the San Antonio restaurant |

| 24 | 24 | | scene, chef Hernandez helped to establish the city's Culinary Task |

| 25 | 25 | | Force in 2015 and to secure San Antonio's designation as a UNESCO |

| 26 | 26 | | Creative City of Gastronomy in 2017; he is the founder of Kitchen |

| 27 | 27 | | Campus, a nonprofit organization that encourages students to pursue |

| 28 | 28 | | the culinary arts, and he gives generously of his time and talents |

| 29 | 29 | | in support of the Culinary Institute of America, St. Philip's |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | College, and the University of Houston Conrad N. Hilton College of |

| 31 | 31 | | Global Hospitality Leadership; moreover, Grupo La Gloria organizes |

| 32 | 32 | | an annual Day of the Dead river parade in San Antonio; and |

| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, In addition to elevating San Antonio's place on the |

| 34 | 34 | | culinary map, Johnny Hernandez has benefited the community through |

| 35 | 35 | | his varied civic endeavors, and he has earned the admiration and |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | appreciation of his fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it |

| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby commend Johnny Hernandez for his contributions |

| 39 | 39 | | to San Antonio and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued |
