5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, For nearly three decades, Karen Kennard has worked |
---|
6 | 6 | | tirelessly in behalf of Texas children; and |
---|
7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Since 2020, Ms. Kennard has served as director of |
---|
8 | 8 | | training and education at The Children's Assessment Center in |
---|
9 | 9 | | Houston, an advocacy center that addresses the needs of sexually |
---|
10 | 10 | | abused children and their families; she conducts workshops on |
---|
11 | 11 | | topics concerning The CAC, child abuse, and child abuse prevention, |
---|
12 | 12 | | and she has been invited into area schools to teach students how to |
---|
13 | 13 | | recognize unsafe situations, protect themselves from predators, |
---|
14 | 14 | | and report abuse; in 2022 alone, her team at The CAC trained more |
---|
15 | 15 | | than 36,000 community members, staff, and partners; prior to |
---|
16 | 16 | | assuming her current role, she was facilitator of the Child Sexual |
---|
17 | 17 | | Abuse Review Team for 16 years; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Kennard was previously employed by the Texas |
---|
19 | 19 | | Department of Family and Protective Services-Child Protective |
---|
20 | 20 | | Services, where she was a child abuse investigator specializing in |
---|
21 | 21 | | cases involving sexual abuse; moreover, she was an adjunct faculty |
---|
22 | 22 | | member for the Harris County Children's Protective Services |
---|
23 | 23 | | Training Institute, and she has led the Child Safety Check Alert |
---|
24 | 24 | | List class for the Houston Police Department since 2016; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, In addition to her professional responsibilities, |
---|
26 | 26 | | Ms. Kennard gives generously of her time and expertise to a number |
---|
27 | 27 | | of task forces and committees, including the Harris County Child |
---|
28 | 28 | | Abuse Task Force Board, the Harris County Interagency Victims |
---|
29 | 29 | | Council, and the Harris County Youth and Family Services Conference |
---|
30 | 30 | | Steering Committee; she is a former member of the San Jacinto |
---|
31 | 31 | | College Board on Intern Placements, the Houston Community College |
---|
32 | 32 | | Advisory Board for the Accelerated Teacher Certification Program, |
---|
33 | 33 | | and the Students of Success Agenda Board; a graduate of The |
---|
34 | 34 | | University of Texas at Austin, Ms. Kennard holds a bachelor's |
---|
35 | 35 | | degree in psychology; and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of her distinguished career, Karen |
---|
37 | 37 | | Kennard has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to ensuring the |
---|
38 | 38 | | safety and well-being of children, and in so doing, she has greatly |
---|
39 | 39 | | benefited countless young Texans and their families; now, |
---|
40 | 40 | | therefore, be it |

41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
42 | 42 | | Legislature hereby commend Karen Kennard on her exemplary record of |
---|
43 | 43 | | service in behalf of Texas children and extend to her sincere best |
---|
44 | 44 | | wishes for the future; and, be it further |
---|
45 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

46 | 46 | | prepared for Ms. Kennard as an expression of high regard by the |
