44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, For nearly three decades, Karen Kennard has worked
66 tirelessly in behalf of Texas children; and
77 WHEREAS, Since 2020, Ms. Kennard has served as director of
88 training and education at The Children's Assessment Center in
99 Houston, an advocacy center that addresses the needs of sexually
1010 abused children and their families; she conducts workshops on
1111 topics concerning The CAC, child abuse, and child abuse prevention,
1212 and she has been invited into area schools to teach students how to
1313 recognize unsafe situations, protect themselves from predators,
1414 and report abuse; in 2022 alone, her team at The CAC trained more
1515 than 36,000 community members, staff, and partners; prior to
1616 assuming her current role, she was facilitator of the Child Sexual
1717 Abuse Review Team for 16 years; and
1818 WHEREAS, Ms. Kennard was previously employed by the Texas
1919 Department of Family and Protective Services-Child Protective
2020 Services, where she was a child abuse investigator specializing in
2121 cases involving sexual abuse; moreover, she was an adjunct faculty
2222 member for the Harris County Children's Protective Services
2323 Training Institute, and she has led the Child Safety Check Alert
2424 List class for the Houston Police Department since 2016; and
2525 WHEREAS, In addition to her professional responsibilities,
2626 Ms. Kennard gives generously of her time and expertise to a number
2727 of task forces and committees, including the Harris County Child
2828 Abuse Task Force Board, the Harris County Interagency Victims
2929 Council, and the Harris County Youth and Family Services Conference
3030 Steering Committee; she is a former member of the San Jacinto
3131 College Board on Intern Placements, the Houston Community College
3232 Advisory Board for the Accelerated Teacher Certification Program,
3333 and the Students of Success Agenda Board; a graduate of The
3434 University of Texas at Austin, Ms. Kennard holds a bachelor's
3535 degree in psychology; and
3636 WHEREAS, Over the course of her distinguished career, Karen
3737 Kennard has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to ensuring the
3838 safety and well-being of children, and in so doing, she has greatly
3939 benefited countless young Texans and their families; now,
4040 therefore, be it
4141 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4242 Legislature hereby commend Karen Kennard on her exemplary record of
4343 service in behalf of Texas children and extend to her sincere best
4444 wishes for the future; and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4646 prepared for Ms. Kennard as an expression of high regard by the
4747 Texas House of Representatives.
