5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Georgetown Police Chief Cory Tchida received the |

6 | 6 | | Citizen of the Year award from the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce |
---|
7 | 7 | | during its annual gala on January 26, 2023; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Each year, the chamber recognizes individuals and |
---|
9 | 9 | | businesses for their outstanding achievements and for their efforts |
---|
10 | 10 | | to benefit the local community; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Cory Tchida has served as Georgetown police chief |
---|
12 | 12 | | since June 2022, when he was promoted from interim chief; a member |
---|
13 | 13 | | of the Georgetown Police Department for more than a quarter |
---|
14 | 14 | | century, he began his career as a patrol officer and spent a decade |
---|
15 | 15 | | working as a sergeant, with oversight of patrol, training, traffic, |
---|
16 | 16 | | and narcotics; he subsequently became lieutenant of patrol and |
---|
17 | 17 | | administration and assisted in the restructuring of the |
---|
18 | 18 | | department's firearms training program; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Highly respected for his exceptional leadership and |
---|
20 | 20 | | community-building skills, Chief Tchida has garnered numerous |
---|
21 | 21 | | accolades, including the 2015 Georgetown Police Chief's Award and |
---|
22 | 22 | | the 2013 City of Georgetown's Manager of the Year Award; he has |
---|
23 | 23 | | further distinguished himself through his active involvement in the |
---|
24 | 24 | | wider community and has made presentations to Citizen Police |
---|
25 | 25 | | Academy classes, citizens' groups, and fellow peace officers; |
---|
26 | 26 | | moreover, he is a longtime board member of Court Appointed Special |
---|
27 | 27 | | Advocates of Williamson County; he holds a bachelor's degree from |
---|
28 | 28 | | The University of Texas and a master's degree in criminal justice |
---|
29 | 29 | | leadership and management from Sam Houston State University, and he |
---|
30 | 30 | | is a graduate of Northwestern University's School of Police Staff |
---|
31 | 31 | | and Command and of the FBI National Academy; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Cory Tchida has demonstrated a lasting commitment to |
---|
33 | 33 | | making Georgetown a better place for all, and in so doing, he has |
---|
34 | 34 | | earned the deep respect and appreciation of his fellow residents; |

35 | 35 | | now, therefore, be it |

36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

37 | 37 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Chief Cory Tchida on his receipt of |

38 | 38 | | the 2022 Citizen of the Year award from the Georgetown Chamber of |

39 | 39 | | Commerce and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued |
