| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Galveston Urban Ministries has been awarded the |

| 6 | 6 | | Platinum Seal of Transparency by Candid; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Candid, the world's largest source of nonprofit |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | information, presents bronze, silver, gold, and platinum |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | designations to organizations that have demonstrated a strong |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | commitment to transparency and accountability; in order to earn the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | platinum award, an organization must meet the bronze, silver, and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | gold requirements in addition to sharing a strategic plan and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | recent metrics highlighting the organization's progress toward its |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | mission; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, A faith-based nonprofit, Galveston Urban Ministries |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | strives to alleviate poverty in the Galveston area by promoting |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | community engagement and empowering individuals to achieve their |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | personal goals; since its inception, the organization has been ably |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | led by its founder and executive director, Josh Dorrell; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Galveston Urban Ministries offers a number of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | initiatives to support people in need, including a student |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | ministries program, the Getting Ahead workshop, a school supply |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | store, a Christmas toy store, and a volunteer and work group |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | program; moreover, the organization contributes to neighborhood |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | revitalization efforts and advocates for local residents; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Galveston Urban Ministries is helping to provide |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | area Texans with the resources they need to build a brighter future, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | and the organization is indeed deserving of recognition for its |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | invaluable contributions; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Galveston Urban Ministries on its |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | receipt of a 2023 Platinum Seal of Transparency from Candid and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | extend to all those associated with the organization sincere best |
