| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The retirement of the Honorable Marc Holder as judge |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | of Brazoria County Court at Law No. 2 on December 31, 2022, provides |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | a fitting opportunity to reflect on his two decades of outstanding |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | service to his fellow citizens; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, First elected to the court in 2002, Judge Holder was |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | reelected, unopposed, every four years since; in 2004, after only a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | year on the bench, he was appointed presiding judge of the County |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Courts at Law by his fellow judges; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Brazoria County and a |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | graduate of Brazosport College, Marc Holder earned his bachelor's |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | degree in political science from the University of Houston in 1977 |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | and his law degree magna cum laude from South Texas College of Law |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | in 1982; a practicing attorney for nearly four decades, he is |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | licensed to handle civil, family, criminal, juvenile, and probate |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | cases in the state courts of Texas, as well as the U.S. District |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Court, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | he is a former president of the Brazoria County Bar Association; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Engaged in his community, Judge Holder has been a |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | member of the Rotary Club, the board of the Boys Club, and the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Angleton Umpires Association, and he was an adjunct professor at |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Alvin Community College; he has coached state and national |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | championship teams for the Angleton Girls Softball Association, and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | he has served as a volunteer child support collector and as a |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | volunteer at the Red Cross Hurricane Relief Center; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Judge Holder enjoys a rewarding family life with his |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | wife, the Honorable Terri Tipton Holder, and their 3 children, |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Stephani, Randi, and Cody, and 10 grandchildren; for nearly four |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | decades, Judge Holder has attended Second Baptist Church, where he |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | has served as a Sunday school teacher and deacon; and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Marc Holder's tenure as a jurist was characterized |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | by diligence, integrity, and a love of the law, and it is indeed a |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | privilege to join with residents of Brazoria County in honoring him |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | for his many years of public service; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Marc Holder on his retirement from |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Brazoria County Court at Law No. 2 and extend to him sincere best |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | wishes for the future; and, be it further |

| 42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
