44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their
66 memories of Lawrence Slatter, who passed away on January 27, 2023;
77 and
88 WHEREAS, Born in Allenhurst, Georgia, Lawrence Slatter moved
99 with his family to Adel in his youth; he graduated from Cook County
1010 Training School and continued his education at Tuskegee University,
1111 where he earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in
1212 electrical engineering; he went on to receive a master's degree in
1313 business administration from Indiana University; and
1414 WHEREAS, In 1971, Mr. Slatter embarked on a successful career
1515 with the Xerox Corporation that spanned more than three decades;
1616 over the years, he held many positions with the company, serving as
1717 senior vice president of the U.S. and Canadian systems services
1818 group and leading the U.S. marketing organization quality team, and
1919 he helped Xerox secure a U.S. National Quality Award; following his
2020 retirement, he served as the chief operating officer for CONEXIS
2121 for two years; and
2222 WHEREAS, An engaged citizen, Mr. Slatter took part in the
2323 historic Selma to Montgomery March in 1965; moreover, he chaired
2424 the Rae's Hope board of directors and played an active role in
2525 numerous outreach programs in the Hamilton Park neighborhood of
2626 Dallas, including the Hamilton Park Health Fair Ministry and its
2727 golf tournament; he also provided funding for Tuskegee University
2828 scholarships; and
2929 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Slatter enjoyed the love
3030 and support of his wife, Anne; he was a devoted father to his three
3131 children and took great pride in seeing each of them graduate from
3232 college; and
3333 WHEREAS, Lawrence Slatter lived a life that was rich in
3434 personal and professional achievements, and he will forever be a
3535 source of inspiration to those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be
3636 it
3737 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3838 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Lawrence Slatter
3939 and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be
4040 it further
4141 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4242 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4343 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lawrence
4444 Slatter.
