5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their |

6 | 6 | | memories of Lawrence Slatter, who passed away on January 27, 2023; |

8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in Allenhurst, Georgia, Lawrence Slatter moved |
---|
9 | 9 | | with his family to Adel in his youth; he graduated from Cook County |
---|
10 | 10 | | Training School and continued his education at Tuskegee University, |
---|
11 | 11 | | where he earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in |
---|
12 | 12 | | electrical engineering; he went on to receive a master's degree in |
---|
13 | 13 | | business administration from Indiana University; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, In 1971, Mr. Slatter embarked on a successful career |
---|
15 | 15 | | with the Xerox Corporation that spanned more than three decades; |
---|
16 | 16 | | over the years, he held many positions with the company, serving as |
---|
17 | 17 | | senior vice president of the U.S. and Canadian systems services |
---|
18 | 18 | | group and leading the U.S. marketing organization quality team, and |
---|
19 | 19 | | he helped Xerox secure a U.S. National Quality Award; following his |
---|
20 | 20 | | retirement, he served as the chief operating officer for CONEXIS |
---|
21 | 21 | | for two years; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, An engaged citizen, Mr. Slatter took part in the |
---|
23 | 23 | | historic Selma to Montgomery March in 1965; moreover, he chaired |
---|
24 | 24 | | the Rae's Hope board of directors and played an active role in |
---|
25 | 25 | | numerous outreach programs in the Hamilton Park neighborhood of |
---|
26 | 26 | | Dallas, including the Hamilton Park Health Fair Ministry and its |
---|
27 | 27 | | golf tournament; he also provided funding for Tuskegee University |
---|
28 | 28 | | scholarships; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Slatter enjoyed the love |
---|
30 | 30 | | and support of his wife, Anne; he was a devoted father to his three |
---|
31 | 31 | | children and took great pride in seeing each of them graduate from |
---|
32 | 32 | | college; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Lawrence Slatter lived a life that was rich in |
---|
34 | 34 | | personal and professional achievements, and he will forever be a |
---|
35 | 35 | | source of inspiration to those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be |
---|
36 | 36 | | it |

37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Lawrence Slatter |
---|
39 | 39 | | and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be |
