| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Clifford R. Shaw is concluding his dedicated service |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | as a member of the Cedar Hill City Council in May 2023; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Clifford Shaw first joined the council in 1998 as |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | the Place 6 representative, and he has since helped guide the city |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | through a period of significant growth and economic expansion; |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | throughout his time in office, he has worked to strengthen the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | community's focus on neighborhood engagement and beautification |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and championed parks, recreation, and open space; among his many |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | accomplishments, he played an instrumental role in the development |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | of a number of public facilities, including Valley Ridge Park, the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Alan E. Sims Cedar Hill Recreation Center, and the Cedar Hill |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Government Center; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, A committed champion of his community, Mr. Shaw is a |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | longtime advocate for African American representation and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | participation in city government and the school district; he helped |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | found the organization, Diversity and Equality in Cedar Hill, which |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | assisted in electing Cedar Hills's first African American council |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | member in 1995; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Shaw holds a bachelor's degree in electrical |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | engineering from Prairie View A&M University and works as a system |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | engineer for Defense Contract Management Agency Lockheed Martin; he |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | is the proud father of three children, La'Katheryn, LaKandice, and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Clifford, all of whom graduated from schools in the Cedar Hill |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Independent School District; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Clifford Shaw has made many important contributions |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | to the Cedar Hill community over the course of his tenure with the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | city council, and he has earned the admiration and appreciation of |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | his fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Clifford R. Shaw on his retirement |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | from the Cedar Hill City Council and extend to him sincere best |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | wishes for the future; and, be it further |

| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
