| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, In Texas, more than 360,000 people are employed in |

| 10 | 11 | | the food retail sector, which generates over $70 billion in |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | economic activity each year; due to their role in helping families |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | put food on the table, supermarkets are cornerstones of their |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | communities, and their workers represent a vital link in the supply |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | chain of food and consumer goods; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The COVID-19 pandemic has posed unprecedented |

| 16 | 17 | | challenges for supermarket employees, who have struggled to keep |

| 17 | 18 | | grocery shelves stocked while facing the elevated risk of being on |

| 18 | 19 | | the front lines during this public health emergency; many of these |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | men and women have gone above and beyond during this difficult time |

| 20 | 21 | | by not only meeting customers' needs but also by collectively |

| 21 | 22 | | contributing countless hours of volunteer service to their |

| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The demand for supermarket employees is greater than |

| 24 | 25 | | ever, and those individuals on whom Texans are relying to perform |

| 25 | 26 | | this essential service are truly deserving of our praise, |

| 26 | 27 | | recognition, and support; now, therefore, be it |

| 27 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 28 | 29 | | Legislature hereby recognize February 22, 2023, as Supermarket |

| 29 | 30 | | Employee Day and call on all Texans to join in honoring the |

| 30 | 31 | | hardworking and dedicated supermarket employees of our state. |
