| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The observance of Special Hearts Day on December 8, |

| 6 | 6 | | 2023, provides an ideal opportunity to celebrate the unique talents |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | and abilities of Texans with special needs; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Special Hearts Day supports the mission of Special |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Hearts in the Arts, a nonprofit organization in Corpus Christi that |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | offers weekly classes in theatre arts, dance, music, art, and film |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | to persons with special needs, in addition to helping them build |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | confidence and showcase their creative gifts through public |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | engagements and performances; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Through Special Hearts Day, the organization is |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | working to build a more inclusive community in which people are |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | defined by their abilities rather than their disabilities; the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | annual event serves as a celebration of all special abilities, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | whether they are discovered through fine arts, sports, or other |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | avenues of life, and emphasizes the way that these creative and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | athletic outlets bring joy to individuals with special needs and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | those around them; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Our communities are made stronger when all residents |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | are valued and supported, and Special Hearts Day is helping to make |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | this vision a reality for those with special abilities to share with |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the world; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby recognize December 8, 2023, as Special Hearts |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Day and commend Special Hearts in the Arts and all of the families, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | volunteers, and community members who are part of this important |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | endeavor; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

| 32 | 32 | | prepared for Special Hearts in the Arts as an expression of high |
|---|
