55 WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort
66 those saddened by the death of Clarence Ray Pennington of Salado on
77 November 17, 2022; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of Clarence Ray Pennington Sr. and Bessie
99 Irene Pennington, CR Pennington was born in Dallas in 1937; he
1010 graduated from Forest Avenue High School in 1955, and he went on to
1111 earn a degree in business from North Texas State Teachers College,
1212 where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity; on March 3,
1313 1973, he wed the former Joyce Eaton, and the couple shared a
1414 rewarding marriage that spanned nearly five decades; and
1515 WHEREAS, In addition to serving in the Air Force Reserve,
1616 Mr. Pennington enjoyed a successful career in the clothing
1717 industry, and he was the owner of 18 retail clothing stores; in
1818 1984, he and Mrs. Pennington purchased American Dance/Drill Team,
1919 and he became vice president and chief financial officer of the
2020 company; over the years, he helped to provide numerous scholarships
2121 for dance students and teams, and in 2017, he helped to establish
2222 the Joyce and CR Pennington Dance Education Scholarship at the
2323 University of North Texas; he was honored with the Distinguished
2424 Service Award from the Texas Dance Educators Association; and
2525 WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Mr. Pennington took great
2626 pride in his two children, Brad and Doug, and with the passing
2727 years, he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include four
2828 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and
2929 WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known CR Pennington
3030 will remember the way he touched their lives with his exceptional
3131 kindness, generosity, and humor, and he will forever hold a special
3232 place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3434 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Clarence Ray
3535 Pennington and extend sincere condolences to the members of his
3636 family: to his wife, Joyce Eaton Pennington; to his sons, Brad
3737 Pennington and his wife, Tracy Melendez, and Doug Pennington and
3838 his wife, Gina Goodson; to his grandchildren, Brittany Pennington
3939 Dolotina and her husband, Jordan Dolotina, Coleman Ray Pennington,
4040 Kylee Goodson, and Sami Selby; to his great-grandchildren, Jackson
4141 and Mackenzie Dolotina; to his cousins, Janis Pennington Bell,
4242 Cindy Pennington Murphey, James Pennington, and Carol Cox; and to
4343 his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4444 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for his
4545 family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns
4646 this day, it do so in memory of CR Pennington.
