5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort |

6 | 6 | | those saddened by the death of Clarence Ray Pennington of Salado on |

7 | 7 | | November 17, 2022; and |

8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Clarence Ray Pennington Sr. and Bessie |
---|
9 | 9 | | Irene Pennington, CR Pennington was born in Dallas in 1937; he |
---|
10 | 10 | | graduated from Forest Avenue High School in 1955, and he went on to |
---|
11 | 11 | | earn a degree in business from North Texas State Teachers College, |
---|
12 | 12 | | where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity; on March 3, |
---|
13 | 13 | | 1973, he wed the former Joyce Eaton, and the couple shared a |
---|
14 | 14 | | rewarding marriage that spanned nearly five decades; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, In addition to serving in the Air Force Reserve, |
---|
16 | 16 | | Mr. Pennington enjoyed a successful career in the clothing |
---|
17 | 17 | | industry, and he was the owner of 18 retail clothing stores; in |
---|
18 | 18 | | 1984, he and Mrs. Pennington purchased American Dance/Drill Team, |
---|
19 | 19 | | and he became vice president and chief financial officer of the |
---|
20 | 20 | | company; over the years, he helped to provide numerous scholarships |
---|
21 | 21 | | for dance students and teams, and in 2017, he helped to establish |
---|
22 | 22 | | the Joyce and CR Pennington Dance Education Scholarship at the |
---|
23 | 23 | | University of North Texas; he was honored with the Distinguished |
---|
24 | 24 | | Service Award from the Texas Dance Educators Association; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Mr. Pennington took great |
---|
26 | 26 | | pride in his two children, Brad and Doug, and with the passing |
---|
27 | 27 | | years, he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include four |
---|
28 | 28 | | grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known CR Pennington |
---|
30 | 30 | | will remember the way he touched their lives with his exceptional |
---|
31 | 31 | | kindness, generosity, and humor, and he will forever hold a special |
---|
32 | 32 | | place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Clarence Ray |

35 | 35 | | Pennington and extend sincere condolences to the members of his |

36 | 36 | | family: to his wife, Joyce Eaton Pennington; to his sons, Brad |

37 | 37 | | Pennington and his wife, Tracy Melendez, and Doug Pennington and |

38 | 38 | | his wife, Gina Goodson; to his grandchildren, Brittany Pennington |
