| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Rockwall County Sheriff's Office is |

| 6 | 6 | | commemorating 150 years of service in 2023; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1873, the department serves Rockwall |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | County, which was founded the same year and has grown from fewer |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | than 3,000 people in 1880 to nearly 108,000 in 2022; today, the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | agency employs a 171-member staff and encompasses enforcement, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | criminal investigation, communication, and detention divisions; |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, the office has benefited from the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | efforts of a total of 19 sheriffs; the first, Thomas F. Shaw, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | initially ran the office as a one-man operation, and the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | longest-tenured sheriff was W. J. Price, who directed the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | department for more than three decades; since 2020, the sheriff's |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | agency has been led by Terry Garrett; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, For a century and a half, the Rockwall County |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Sheriff's Office has worked to protect the lives and property of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | area residents, and it is a privilege to join in commending its |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | staff for their outstanding service; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature hereby honor the Rockwall County Sheriff's Office on |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the occasion of its 150th anniversary and extend to all those |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | associated with the department sincere best wishes for continued |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | success with their important work; and, be it further |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
