44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The city of Dallas lost an esteemed businessman and
66 civic leader with the passing of Gerald Wayne Fronterhouse on
77 September 17, 2022, at the age of 86; and
88 WHEREAS, Born in Ada, Oklahoma, on May 22, 1936, Jerry
99 Fronterhouse was the son of Victor and Austa Fronterhouse; he
1010 earned his bachelor's degree in petroleum engineering from the
1111 University of Oklahoma, where he played football and served as
1212 battalion commander for the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps;
1313 following two years in the U.S. Navy, he completed his MBA at
1414 Harvard Business School and began his career as a credit analyst
1515 with Republic National Bank; he rose quickly in the company,
1616 becoming president and chief operating officer at just 42; after
1717 Republic's merger with First National, he was named chair and CEO of
1818 First Republic, one of the country's largest bank holding
1919 companies; and
2020 WHEREAS, Mr. Fronterhouse served on the board of Texas
2121 Instruments and many other companies; moreover, he gave freely of
2222 his time and expertise as a member of the boards of numerous
2323 nonprofit organizations, including the Hoblitzelle Foundation, UT
2424 Southwestern Medical Foundation, Children's Medical Foundation,
2525 Dallas Citizens Council, State Fair of Texas, Lamplighter School,
2626 Hockaday School, and Highland Park United Methodist Church; he was
2727 also a generous supporter of Harvard Business School; and
2828 WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Fronterhouse shared a
2929 fulfilling marriage of 53 years with his college sweetheart, the
3030 former Gretchen Gover; they were blessed with two children, Jenny
3131 and Jeff; following the death of his first wife in 2012, he was
3232 fortunate enough to find another great love with Annette Caldwell
3333 Simmons, and they wed on Valentine's Day in 2016; he was a source of
3434 encouragement and wise counsel to his nine grandchildren, Brant,
3535 Lindsey, Lauren, Blake, Laney, Carson, Hayden, Alex, and Kara, and
3636 he delighted in the arrival of four great-grandchildren; and
3737 WHEREAS, Jerry Fronterhouse was admired not only for his
3838 accomplishments, but also for his warmth, kindness, integrity, and
3939 optimism, and he will be remembered with deep affection by all who
4040 were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
4141 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4242 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Gerald Wayne
4343 Fronterhouse and extend sincere sympathy to his family and many
4444 friends; and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4646 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4747 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jerry
4848 Fronterhouse.
