| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, For nearly two decades, The Arc of Greater Beaumont |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | has served as an important resource and advocate for area residents |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | with disabilities; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, In 2005, The Arc of Greater Beaumont was established |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | as a local chapter of The Arc of Texas and The Arc of the United |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | States, which were formed in the early 1950s to promote the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | inclusion of people with intellectual and developmental |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | disabilities; the founding of the Beaumont chapter was led by five |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | concerned parents who wanted to provide opportunities for their |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | young adult children to socialize after they graduated from public |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | school; over the span of a decade, the organization grew to serve |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | more than 400 individuals, offering a variety of programs designed |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | to help them live fuller and more independent lives; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Through The Arc's Adult Socialization and Leisure |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Activities program, participants take part in field trips, dances, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | community service projects, and other activities in a safe, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | supervised environment, which can help them become more adept at |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | interacting with others; The Arc of Greater Beaumont also offers a |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Children & Family Services program that provides specialized |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | support for the families and caregivers of children with |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | developmental disabilities; moreover, the chapter's Southeast |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Texas Self-Advocates initiative is managed by adults with |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | disabilities and designed to help its members develop skills in the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | areas of self-advocacy, leadership, and education; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, The Arc of Greater Beaumont has excelled in its |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | mission of building a more inclusive and equitable community for |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | all, and the contributions of the organization and its hardworking |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | volunteers have touched the lives of numerous area residents; now, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | therefore, be it |

| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Legislature hereby honor The Arc of Greater Beaumont for its |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | service to individuals with intellectual and developmental |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | disabilities and their families and extend to the organization's |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | leadership, staff, and volunteers sincere best wishes for the |
|---|
