5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to |

6 | 6 | | a close with the passing of Charles William Thurman on |
---|
7 | 7 | | November 26, 2022, at the age of 69; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Charles Thurman was born in Texas City on |
---|
9 | 9 | | March 22, 1953; active in Little League baseball in his youth, he |
---|
10 | 10 | | was an outstanding pitcher and was supported by his family at all of |
---|
11 | 11 | | his games; together, they enjoyed going on camping trips and |
---|
12 | 12 | | visiting Galveston beaches; through the years, he developed an |
---|
13 | 13 | | interest in surfing, and he built surfboards in the garage with his |
---|
14 | 14 | | mother; he was an alumnus of Texas City High School; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Continuing the proud tradition of military service |
---|
16 | 16 | | established by his father and grandfather, Mr. Thurman joined the |
---|
17 | 17 | | U.S. Navy in 1977; after completing flight engineer school, he was |
---|
18 | 18 | | stationed at several locations, including at Naval Air Station |
---|
19 | 19 | | Barbers Point and Naval Station Pearl Harbor in Hawaii; from 1992 to |
---|
20 | 20 | | 1995, he served with an air test and evacuation squadron in |
---|
21 | 21 | | Maryland, and he was part of a special projects unit at NAS Barbers |
---|
22 | 22 | | Point until 1998; his final assignment was at the Naval Aviation |
---|
23 | 23 | | Depot in Jacksonville, Florida; he retired in April 2001, |
---|
24 | 24 | | concluding a 24-year career at the rank of chief E-7; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, In recognition of his distinguished service, |
---|
26 | 26 | | Mr. Thurman received numerous awards, including three Navy |
---|
27 | 27 | | Commendation Medals, five Achievement Medals, the Southwest Asia |
---|
28 | 28 | | Service Medal, and a Humanitarian Service Medal; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Pursuing his passion for aviation, Mr. Thurman |
---|
30 | 30 | | subsequently embarked on a second career, first flying commercial |
---|
31 | 31 | | jets and then serving as a pilot for NetJets from 2006 to 2019; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Thurman treasured time spent with his family; he |
---|
33 | 33 | | was a loving husband to his wife, Rose, and he took great pride in |
---|
34 | 34 | | his daughter, Jennifer; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Although Charles Thurman is deeply missed, memories |
---|
36 | 36 | | of his patriotism and his devotion to his loved ones remain to |
---|
37 | 37 | | comfort and inspire those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
39 | 39 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Charles William |
---|
40 | 40 | | Thurman and extend heartfelt condolences to his relatives and |
---|
41 | 41 | | friends; and, be it further |
---|
42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
43 | 43 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
44 | 44 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Charles |
---|
45 | 45 | | Thurman. |
