44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to
66 a close with the passing of Charles William Thurman on
77 November 26, 2022, at the age of 69; and
88 WHEREAS, Charles Thurman was born in Texas City on
99 March 22, 1953; active in Little League baseball in his youth, he
1010 was an outstanding pitcher and was supported by his family at all of
1111 his games; together, they enjoyed going on camping trips and
1212 visiting Galveston beaches; through the years, he developed an
1313 interest in surfing, and he built surfboards in the garage with his
1414 mother; he was an alumnus of Texas City High School; and
1515 WHEREAS, Continuing the proud tradition of military service
1616 established by his father and grandfather, Mr. Thurman joined the
1717 U.S. Navy in 1977; after completing flight engineer school, he was
1818 stationed at several locations, including at Naval Air Station
1919 Barbers Point and Naval Station Pearl Harbor in Hawaii; from 1992 to
2020 1995, he served with an air test and evacuation squadron in
2121 Maryland, and he was part of a special projects unit at NAS Barbers
2222 Point until 1998; his final assignment was at the Naval Aviation
2323 Depot in Jacksonville, Florida; he retired in April 2001,
2424 concluding a 24-year career at the rank of chief E-7; and
2525 WHEREAS, In recognition of his distinguished service,
2626 Mr. Thurman received numerous awards, including three Navy
2727 Commendation Medals, five Achievement Medals, the Southwest Asia
2828 Service Medal, and a Humanitarian Service Medal; and
2929 WHEREAS, Pursuing his passion for aviation, Mr. Thurman
3030 subsequently embarked on a second career, first flying commercial
3131 jets and then serving as a pilot for NetJets from 2006 to 2019; and
3232 WHEREAS, Mr. Thurman treasured time spent with his family; he
3333 was a loving husband to his wife, Rose, and he took great pride in
3434 his daughter, Jennifer; and
3535 WHEREAS, Although Charles Thurman is deeply missed, memories
3636 of his patriotism and his devotion to his loved ones remain to
3737 comfort and inspire those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it
3838 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3939 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Charles William
4040 Thurman and extend heartfelt condolences to his relatives and
4141 friends; and, be it further
4242 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4343 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4444 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Charles
4545 Thurman.
