| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Lewisville High School is celebrating its 125th |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | anniversary in 2023; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1897 in the farming community of |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Lewisville, the facility offered one of the first dedicated high |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | school programs in North Texas; the first Lewisville High class in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 1901 was composed of five students; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Today, Lewisville High serves an enrollment of more |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | than 4,200, and it graduated a class of 1,154 students in 2022; the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | school currently benefits from the leadership of its principal, Jim |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Baker, its chief of high schools, Andy Plunkett, and a dedicated |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | faculty and staff; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The Lewisville High mascot, the Fighting Farmers, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | traces its origins back to 1914 and the start of the LHS football |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | program; the team was named by B. F. Tunnell, the Lewisville school |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | district superintendent and a vocational agriculture teacher; well |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | known throughout Texas, the Fighting Farmers mascot reflects the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | area's rich agricultural roots; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, For well over a century, Lewisville High School has |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | provided generations of young Texans with a strong foundation on |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | which to build, and its rich history is a source of tremendous pride |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | to the community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 125th anniversary of Lewisville |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | High School and extend to all those associated with the school |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | prepared for Lewisville High School as an expression of high regard |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | by the Texas House of Representatives. |
