55 WHEREAS, Olympic track athlete Fred Kerley received
66 well-deserved recognition with the dedication of a mural in his
77 honor on February 4, 2023, in his hometown of Taylor; and
88 WHEREAS, Painted by local artist Adam Davenport, the mural
99 depicts Mr. Kerley sprinting to victory in the 100-meter dash at
1010 the 2022 World Athletics Championships; his gold-medal time of 9.86
1111 seconds was the sixth-fastest ever recorded at that distance; he
1212 also gained worldwide attention for his exceptional Olympic
1313 performance in 2021, when he collected a silver medal in the 100
1414 meters at the Summer Games in Tokyo; and
1515 WHEREAS, Mr. Kerley was a track, football, and basketball
1616 standout at Taylor High School; following his graduation, he went
1717 on to attend South Plains College and Texas A&M University; he
1818 starred as a member of the Aggies' track team, winning the 400-meter
1919 title at the 2017 NCAA Division I indoor and outdoor track and field
2020 championships; that same year, he set the collegiate record in the
2121 event; and
2222 WHEREAS, Demonstrating exceptional talent and dedication,
2323 Fred Kerley has proven himself one of the top sprinters in the
2424 world, and his achievements are a source of great pride and
2525 inspiration for the residents of Taylor; now, therefore, be it
2626 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
2727 Legislature hereby congratulate track athlete Fred Kerley on being
2828 honored with a mural in his hometown of Taylor and extend to him
2929 sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
3030 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3131 prepared for Mr. Kerley as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3232 House of Representatives.
