| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Olympic track athlete Fred Kerley received |

| 6 | 6 | | well-deserved recognition with the dedication of a mural in his |

| 7 | 7 | | honor on February 4, 2023, in his hometown of Taylor; and |

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Painted by local artist Adam Davenport, the mural |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | depicts Mr. Kerley sprinting to victory in the 100-meter dash at |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | the 2022 World Athletics Championships; his gold-medal time of 9.86 |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | seconds was the sixth-fastest ever recorded at that distance; he |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | also gained worldwide attention for his exceptional Olympic |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | performance in 2021, when he collected a silver medal in the 100 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | meters at the Summer Games in Tokyo; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Kerley was a track, football, and basketball |

| 16 | 16 | | standout at Taylor High School; following his graduation, he went |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | on to attend South Plains College and Texas A&M University; he |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | starred as a member of the Aggies' track team, winning the 400-meter |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | title at the 2017 NCAA Division I indoor and outdoor track and field |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | championships; that same year, he set the collegiate record in the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | event; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Demonstrating exceptional talent and dedication, |

| 23 | 23 | | Fred Kerley has proven himself one of the top sprinters in the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | world, and his achievements are a source of great pride and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | inspiration for the residents of Taylor; now, therefore, be it |

| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby congratulate track athlete Fred Kerley on being |

| 28 | 28 | | honored with a mural in his hometown of Taylor and extend to him |

| 29 | 29 | | sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
