44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Members of Support Texas Adoptee Rights (STAR) are
66 gathering in Austin on March 21, 2023, for Texas Adoptee Rights Day
77 at the State Capitol; and
88 WHEREAS, A nonprofit organization, STAR is dedicated to
99 raising awareness of the unique challenges that adult adoptees face
1010 in accessing their own information; through education and
1111 legislative reform, the group works tirelessly to ensure that
1212 adults in Texas who were adopted receive equal treatment under the
1313 law and have access to their family health history and personal
1414 identity information, including their original birth certificates;
1515 and
1616 WHEREAS, The organization represents the interests of all
1717 three parties involved in the adoption process--adult adoptees,
1818 birth parents, and adoptive parents--and its members include
1919 residents of 254 Texas counties as well as adoptees from out of
2020 state whose births and adoptions occurred in Texas; and
2121 WHEREAS, STAR is helping to rectify the unintended
2222 consequences of past adoption practices in Texas and to create a
2323 more transparent, just, and humane adoption system for the future;
2424 now, therefore, be it
2525 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
2626 Legislature hereby recognize March 21, 2023, as Texas Adoptee
2727 Rights Day at the State Capitol and extend to the organization
2828 sincere best wishes for continued success with its important work.
