| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Members of Support Texas Adoptee Rights (STAR) are |

| 6 | 6 | | gathering in Austin on March 21, 2023, for Texas Adoptee Rights Day |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A nonprofit organization, STAR is dedicated to |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | raising awareness of the unique challenges that adult adoptees face |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | in accessing their own information; through education and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | legislative reform, the group works tirelessly to ensure that |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | adults in Texas who were adopted receive equal treatment under the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | law and have access to their family health history and personal |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | identity information, including their original birth certificates; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The organization represents the interests of all |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | three parties involved in the adoption process--adult adoptees, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | birth parents, and adoptive parents--and its members include |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | residents of 254 Texas counties as well as adoptees from out of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | state whose births and adoptions occurred in Texas; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, STAR is helping to rectify the unintended |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | consequences of past adoption practices in Texas and to create a |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | more transparent, just, and humane adoption system for the future; |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 21, 2023, as Texas Adoptee |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Rights Day at the State Capitol and extend to the organization |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | sincere best wishes for continued success with its important work. |
