| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association |

| 6 | 6 | | recognized Bob Buchholz of Eldorado with its prestigious Earwood |

| 7 | 7 | | Award at the association's 107th annual convention on July 15, |

| 8 | 8 | | 2022, in Kerrville; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1969 by the friends and family of the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | late Fred Earwood of Sonora, the TSGRA's Earwood Award honors those |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | whose loyalty and dedication to the sheep and goat industry |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | exemplify land and livestock values; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Bob Buchholz grew up on the Nagel Ranch in Hays |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | County, and after graduating from Dripping Springs High School, he |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | attended Tarleton State University; he went on to complete the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Texas Christian University Ranch Management program in 1975, and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | shortly thereafter, he began training horses for the public along |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | with his brother, David; in 1977, Mr. Buchholz and his brother |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | began leasing property to run Angora goats and Angus cattle, and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | they were among the first in Texas to use and breed Great Pyrenees |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | guard dogs to protect sheep and goats; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In 1991, Mr. Buchholz married his wife, Mary, and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | they share three sons, Robert, Dalton, and Franklin; today, the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | family raises meat goats, sheep, and cattle in Schleicher, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Crockett, and Menard Counties; rotational grazing, prescribed |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | burning, trapping, and livestock protection dogs are all an |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | essential part of their ranching operation; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Buchholz is the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | president of the Schleicher County Predator Association; he has |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | also held leadership positions with a number of other |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | organizations, including the Eldorado-Divide Soil and Water |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Conservation District Board, the Edwards Plateau Prescribed |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Burning Association, the American Sheep Industry Association, the |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | American Goat Federation, and the TSGRA, which he has benefited as a |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | past president, as a director, and as chair of the meat goat |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | committee; in 2008, the association recognized him with its Young |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Ranchers Award; and |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Bob Buchholz has distinguished himself through his |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | tireless dedication to the sheep and goat industry, and he may |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | indeed take great pride in his receipt of this prestigious |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | accolade; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Bob Buchholz on his receipt of the |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | 2022 Earwood Award from the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | Association and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued |
