| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Stanley B. Mayfield III of Sonora is the recipient |

| 6 | 6 | | of the 2022 Clarence and Doris Dietert Memorial Award from the Texas |

| 7 | 7 | | Sheep and Goat Raisers Association; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The accolade honors the late Clarence and Doris |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Dietert, who were lifelong members of TSGRA; first presented in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 2005, the award recognizes those individuals who have given of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | their time and resources for the betterment of the sheep and goat |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | industry; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mentored by his father, Stanley Mayfield, "Seco" |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Mayfield is a fifth-generation sheep and goat rancher; he was a high |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | school student in San Antonio when he began learning about the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | mohair industry by working on his father's ranch; he also interned |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | on the Whitehead Ranch, and at the age of 20, he leased Edwards |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | County ranchland from his grandmother, Zena Wheat Mayfield, and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | started his own commercial flock; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Today, Mr. Mayfield raises Angora goats and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | fine-wool sheep west of Sonora; he and his sister, Gerry, work |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | together, and his son, Ed, helps run the ranch and is a partner in |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the goat operation; in addition to his father, Mr. Mayfield credits |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | a number of individuals with helping him learn about land |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | stewardship and livestock; among them are members of the Earwood |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | family, who assisted him in establishing guidelines for his Angora |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | goat commercial breeding program; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Mayfield currently holds the position of |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | manager of the Sonora Wool, Warehouse & Mohair Company, which he |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | previously served as interim manager; furthermore, he is president |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | of the Mohair Producer Board, an honorary director of TSGRA, and a |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | past president of the Mohair Council of America and the Texas Wool |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | and Mohair Warehouse Association; he is also actively involved with |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | the American Sheep Industry Association; civically engaged, he has |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | served as president of the Sonora Chamber of Commerce; and |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Seco Mayfield has distinguished himself through his |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | unwavering commitment to the continued growth of the sheep and goat |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | industry in the Lone Star State, and he may indeed take great pride |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | in his receipt of this notable accolade; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Stanley B. Mayfield III on being |

| 42 | 42 | | honored with the 2022 Clarence and Doris Dietert Memorial Award |
