44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, For nearly 40 years, the dedicated volunteers of
66 Child Advocates San Antonio have made a profound difference in the
77 lives of vulnerable children in Bexar County; and
88 WHEREAS, Child Advocates San Antonio was founded in 1984 by
99 the National Council of Jewish Women in San Antonio under the
1010 leadership of Ellinor Forland and office manager Betty Zinn; the
1111 organization is part of a nationwide network of Court Appointed
1212 Special Advocates programs, which train volunteers to serve as the
1313 official voice for abused and neglected children in the foster care
1414 system; these special advocates are appointed by district court
1515 judges, and they work tirelessly to help ensure that each child
1616 finds a safe and permanent home; and
1717 WHEREAS, Since the San Antonio chapter's inception, its
1818 advocates have provided invaluable assistance to children in foster
1919 care in Bexar County; last year alone, local CASA volunteers
2020 devoted more than 18,000 hours, and in 2021 they drove over 160,000
2121 miles to ensure that their young clients received the care and
2222 services they needed as they navigated the child welfare system;
2323 the chapter has also served the community by facilitating events
2424 such as a back-to-school giveaway, through which it distributed
2525 backpacks to more than 1,000 local families; and
2626 WHEREAS, On January 24, 2023, Child Advocates San Antonio
2727 announced that it had been designated a trauma-informed certified
2828 agency; the organization is one of only a few in Bexar County to
2929 attain this certification, which underscores its commitment to
3030 providing trauma-informed care to survivors of abuse and neglect;
3131 and
3232 WHEREAS, Child Advocates San Antonio has relied immensely on
3333 the hard work, compassion, and drive of its volunteers in carrying
3434 out its vital mission, and all those involved with the organization
3535 are truly deserving of recognition for their generous service to
3636 young Texans in need; now, therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3838 Legislature hereby honor Child Advocates San Antonio for its
3939 outstanding work in behalf of foster children in Bexar County and
4040 extend to those affiliated with the group sincere best wishes for
4141 the future; and, be it further
4242 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4343 prepared for Child Advocates San Antonio as an expression of high
4444 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
