| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Proud residents and community leaders of Richardson |

| 6 | 6 | | are gathering in Austin on March 1, 2023, to celebrate Richardson |

| 7 | 7 | | Day at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Located in Dallas and Collin Counties, Richardson |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | can trace its origins to the 1840s, when settlers from Tennessee and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Kentucky began arriving in the area; in 1873, the city was founded |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | on the tracks of the Houston and Texas Central Railway and was named |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | after railroad contractor E. H. Richardson; the small town quickly |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | became a farming community, with its residents growing crops such |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | as wheat, oats, cotton, and corn; the city was officially |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | incorporated in 1925, and over the succeeding decades, it |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | experienced rapid commercial and residential growth; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Today, this vibrant and prosperous community has a |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | population of more than 115,000 people and boasts a flourishing |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | technological industry; Richardson is an integral part of North |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Texas's Silicon Prairie and at the heart of the Telecom Corridor, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and many of the world's leading networking and telecommunications |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | companies are based there, including Samsung, AT&T, and Verizon; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | moreover, the city is home to both the University of Texas at Dallas |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and Dallas College Richland Campus; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Residents and visitors alike enjoy a variety of area |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | attractions, among them Breckinridge Park, Heights Park, and the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Eisemann Center for Performing Arts; in addition, the community |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | hosts a number of popular annual events, including the Wildflower! |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Arts & Music Festival, Cottonwood Art Festival, and Santa's |

| 30 | 30 | | Village; in June 2023, Richardson is celebrating the 150th |

| 31 | 31 | | anniversary of its founding, and in recognition of this historic |

| 32 | 32 | | milestone, the city is organizing a 150th anniversary celebration; |

| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Boasting a rich history, thriving educational and |
