| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A delegation from Erath County, including |

| 6 | 6 | | representatives from the county, the City of Stephenville, |

| 7 | 7 | | Stephenville ISD, the City of Dublin, Dublin ISD and Tarleton State |

| 8 | 8 | | University, are gathering at the State Capitol on March 1, 2023, and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | this occasion provides a welcome opportunity to recognize the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | county's contributions to the Lone Star State; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Formed in 1856, Erath County is named for George |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | B. Erath, an original surveyor of the area; cotton farming was an |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | important early industry, and fruit orchards, dairy and poultry |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | farms, and other agricultural ventures later became prominent; coal |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | mining also provided jobs, and the Thurber Brick Company was |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | established in 1918 to manufacture such materials as tile and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | paving bricks; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The seat of Erath County, Stephenville is situated |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | along the Bosque River; it honors John M. Stephen, who settled there |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | in 1854 and donated land for the townsite; Stephenville has |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | received the Main Street designation from the Texas Historical |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Commission, and the 1892 Erath County Courthouse designed by James |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Riely Gordon is renowned for its beauty; serving as a hub for the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | area's agricultural operations, Stephenville is also the site of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | medical facilities and retail businesses, with a range of |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | manufacturers, including Fortune 500 companies, adding economic |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | diversity to the community; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, The Stephenville Independent School District serves |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | more than 3,600 students at three elementary schools, an |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | intermediate school and junior high school, and Stephenville High |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | School; the district has received an overall A rating from the Texas |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Education Agency and places a strong emphasis on the core values of |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | initiative, integrity, and growth in preparing students for the |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | challenges and opportunities of the future; and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, the city of Dublin is located is southwestern Erath |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | County; Dublin is home to Dublin Bottling Works, a bottling company |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | formerly responsible for the famed "Dublin Dr. Pepper"; Dublin is |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | the home of many famous Texan faces including renowned golfer Ben |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Hogan and legendary cowboy Gene Autry; Dublin is known as the |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | official Irish Capitol of Texas, a designation it received in 2005; |

| 41 | 41 | | and |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | WHEREAS, The Dublin Independent School System serves more |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | than 1,000 students at Dublin Elementary School, Dublin |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | Intermediate School, and Dublin High School; the district has |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | received an overall A rating from the Texas Education Agency and |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | boasts a near 95% four year graduation rate; and |
|---|
| 47 | 47 | | WHEREAS, The county is home to two higher education |
|---|
| 48 | 48 | | facilities, Ranger College and Tarleton State University, which is |
|---|
| 49 | 49 | | a four-year institution that was established in 1899; a member of |
|---|
| 50 | 50 | | The Texas A&M University System, TSU boasts an enrollment of more |
|---|
| 51 | 51 | | than 14,000 students and offers nearly 100 undergraduate and |
|---|
| 52 | 52 | | graduate degree plans; made up of seven academic colleges, the |
|---|
| 53 | 53 | | university also offers a doctorate in education and expanded online |
|---|
| 54 | 54 | | programs; and |
|---|
| 55 | 55 | | WHEREAS, Beloved for its rich Western heritage and rural |
|---|
| 56 | 56 | | friendliness, Erath County is one of the treasures of Texas, and its |
|---|
| 57 | 57 | | citizens may indeed take pride in the place they call home; now, |
|---|
| 58 | 58 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 59 | 59 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 60 | 60 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 1, 2023, as Erath County Day at |
|---|
| 61 | 61 | | the State Capitol and commend the visitors from the county, the City |
|---|
| 62 | 62 | | of Stephenville, Stephenville ISD, and Tarleton State University |
|---|
| 63 | 63 | | for their community's contributions to the Lone Star State. |
