| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Fire engineer Anastacio Urbina Jr. of the Galveston |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Fire Department was presented with the Firefighter of the Year |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | award from the Rotary Club of Galveston in February 2023; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Each year, the Rotary Club of Galveston honors local |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | leaders for their service to the community; there are five |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | vocational awards in total, and Mr. Urbina was selected in the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | firefighter category; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, A native of Galveston, Mr. Urbina completed the fire |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | academy program at the College of the Mainland in Texas City in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | 1997, and he began his career with the Galveston Fire Department the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | following year; he served as a firefighter on Engine 1 for nearly a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | decade, and he was promoted to engineer in 2005; he currently drives |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Engine 7, and his many responsibilities include maintaining the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | fire truck, checking equipment, and operating the pump and portable |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | tools; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Among his many achievements, Mr. Urbina received a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Hero's Award from the 100 Club in 2009 for saving two lives with |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | three of his fellow firefighters; he became a member and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | coordinator of the Galveston Fire Department Honor Guard in 2000, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and he has played an instrumental role in educating local youth as |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | well as the wider community about fire safety; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Through his skill and dedication to duty, Anastacio |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Urbina exemplifies the highest ideals of his profession, and he may |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | indeed reflect with pride on this well-deserved recognition; now, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature hereby congratulate fire engineer Anastacio Urbina Jr. |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | on his receipt of the Firefighter of the Year award from the Rotary |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Club of Galveston and extend to him sincere best wishes for the |
