5	5	WHEREAS, Members of the state chapter of Crime Survivors for
6	6	Safety and Justice are gathering in Austin on March 30, 2023, for
7	7	Survivors Speak Texas Day at the State Capitol; and
8	8	WHEREAS, A flagship project of the Alliance for Safety and
9	9	Justice, Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice is a national
10	10	organization that promotes public safety policies that reduce
11	11	incarceration and increase investments in crime prevention, trauma
12	12	recovery, and rehabilitation; with chapters in several states
13	13	across the country, the group also provides opportunities for
14	14	survivors to participate in support groups and community
15	15	organizing; and
16	16	WHEREAS, Because more than half of violent crimes are
17	17	estimated to go unreported, and few survivors receive direct
18	18	assistance from a victim service agency, many people face
19	19	long-term, debilitating effects without appropriate support; Crime
20	20	Survivors for Safety and Justice helps to bridge these gaps in
21	21	victim services, as well as to offer guidance to policy makers on
22	22	evidence-based practices to protect victims and reduce incidents of
23	23	violent crime; and
24	24	WHEREAS, Each year during National Crime Victims' Rights
25	25	Week, Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice holds its Survivors
26	26	Speak event, which brings together crime survivors and their loved
27	27	ones to advocate for safety and justice policy reforms,
28	28	particularly in communities with high rates of crime; since its
29	29	inception, the event has grown into a yearlong movement that
30	30	culminates in a National Healing Vigil Day of Action, with events in
31	31	more than two dozen cities around the country; and
32	32	WHEREAS, Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice is playing an
33	33	important role in helping the people and communities most harmed by
34	34	crime and violence, and all those associated with the organization
35	35	are indeed deserving of commendation for their tireless advocacy;
36	36	now, therefore, be it
37	37	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
38	38	Legislature hereby recognize March 30, 2023, as Survivors Speak
39	39	Texas Day at the State Capitol and extend to the staff and
40	40	volunteers of Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice sincere
41	41	appreciation for their efforts; and, be it further
42	42	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
43	43	prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
44	44	Texas House of Representatives.
