44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
66 passing of Eugene P. Toscano of San Antonio on February 23, 2023, at
77 the age of 89; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of Cleofas and Anastacio Toscano, Gene
99 Toscano was born in San Antonio on June 8, 1933, and he grew up with
1010 the companionship of four brothers, Lionel, Joseph, John, and
1111 Henry; he graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1950 and
1212 received a music scholarship to attend St. Mary's University, where
1313 he earned a bachelor's degree in English in 1954; and
1414 WHEREAS, An accomplished trumpet player, Mr. Toscano played
1515 salsa and tropical music in downtown San Antonio during his youth,
1616 and he went on to participate in a nationwide tour with Rosita
1717 Fernandez and Pedro Gonzalez-Gonzalez; answering his nation's call
1818 to duty, he served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957, and he played
1919 trumpet in the Fifth Army Band during his time stationed in Germany;
2020 to help support his family, he continued to play trumpet with a
2121 number of orchestras while attending St. Mary's University School
2222 of Law, and he obtained his law degree in 1961; and
2323 WHEREAS, Mr. Toscano established the Gene Toscano, Inc., law
2424 firm in San Antonio in 1965, and over the course of his career as an
2525 attorney, he helped resolve thousands of legal disputes; he retired
2626 in 2018, after 57 years of service in the legal profession; along
2727 the way, he also worked as a real estate developer, political
2828 commentator, rancher, bar owner, boxing promoter, and tire store
2929 owner; and
3030 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Toscano benefited from the
3131 love and support of his wife, Esther, with whom he shared a
3232 rewarding marriage that spanned nearly six decades; he took great
3333 pride in their 5 children, Marisa, Gina, Andrew, Patrick, and
3434 Monica, and he had the pleasure of welcoming into his family 11
3535 grandchildren; during his leisure time, he enjoyed horse racing,
3636 following baseball, and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, and he was
3737 passionate about music and salsa dancing; and
3838 WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Gene Toscano
3939 will always remember the way he touched their lives with his warmth,
4040 kindness, and delightful sense of humor, and they will forever hold
4141 him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
4242 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4343 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Eugene P. Toscano
4444 and extend heartfelt sympathy to his loved ones; and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4646 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4747 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Gene
4848 Toscano.
