H.R. No. 465
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dr. Claudia F. Lucchinetti began her tenure as dean
of The University of Texas at Austin's Dell Medical School on
December 1, 2022; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Lucchinetti is the second dean of Dell Medical
School, which began offering classes in 2016; in addition to
leading the faculty of the institution and overseeing the clinical
operations at its clinic, UT Health Austin, she will serve as senior
vice president for medical affairs at The University of Texas and
will hold the Frank and Charmaine Denius Distinguished Dean's Chair
in Medical Leadership; and
WHEREAS, An alumna of Rush Medical College in Chicago and
Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, Dr. Lucchinetti
completed medical training at the Mayo Clinic and the Institute of
Experimental Neurology at the University of Vienna in Austria; she
joined the faculty at the Mayo Clinic in 1996 and has served as
chair of the neurology department and dean for clinical and
translational science; her research has centered on multiple
sclerosis and other inflammatory demyelinating diseases, and her
team has uncovered important findings that have led to the
discovery of biomarkers and the development of new treatments for
MS; during her time at the Mayo Clinic, she has also headed research
on neuromyelitis optica, an autoimmune disease of the eye, which
has resulted in the first FDA-approved medication for the
condition; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Claudia Lucchinetti has distinguished herself
as a medical scientist and researcher of the highest caliber, and
The University of Texas and Dell Medical School are certain to
benefit immeasurably from the extensive knowledge and experience
she brings to her new position; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Claudia F. Lucchinetti on her
appointment as dean of the UT Dell Medical School and extend to her
sincere best wishes for a productive and rewarding tenure; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Dr. Lucchinetti as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
