44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Scouts BSA Troop No. 7 in Grapevine is celebrating
66 the 110th anniversary of its founding on March 8, 2023; and
77 WHEREAS, In 1913, the mayor of Grapevine, Benjamin Richard
88 Wall, brought the No. 7 Boy Scout Unit Charter back from New York,
99 establishing it as one of the oldest scout groups in Texas and the
1010 region west of the Mississippi; not even World War I could diminish
1111 the enthusiasm of this group of young men, who continued to meet and
1212 camp every Friday night even though most of their fathers were
1313 fighting overseas; and
1414 WHEREAS, Mayor Wall remained involved with the troop until
1515 1954, and through the years it has been supported by a number of
1616 local organizations, including the Grapevine Business Men's
1717 League, the Grapevine City Council, the Grapevine Lions Club, and
1818 St. Laurence Episcopal Church; today, this scouting crew is
1919 sponsored by Grapevine Friends of Scouting; and
2020 WHEREAS, Under the leadership of scoutmaster Darren White,
2121 Troop No. 7 counts approximately 40 scouts among its members; the
2222 troop has produced 144 Eagle Scouts and has participated in myriad
2323 service projects such as flag ceremonies on Memorial Day and
2424 numerous activities performed in behalf of schools,
2525 municipalities, and other organizations; and
2626 WHEREAS, For more than a century, Scouts BSA Troop No. 7 has
2727 made a significant difference in the lives of countless young
2828 Texans while contributing to the betterment of Grapevine, Tarrant
2929 County, and beyond, and it is indeed a pleasure to join in
3030 recognizing this momentous milestone in the group's rich history;
3131 now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3333 Legislature hereby congratulate Scouts BSA Troop No. 7 of Grapevine
3434 on the 110th anniversary of its founding and commend its members and
3535 leaders, past and present, and all those who have worked to support
3636 the organization during its 11 decades of service to the community;
3737 and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3939 prepared for the troop as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4040 House of Representatives.
