| 6 | 6 | | 2023, to celebrate Texas Southern University Day at the State |

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, One of the nation's preeminent historically Black |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | colleges and universities, TSU was founded in 1927; it was |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | designated as a special-purpose institution of higher education for |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | urban programming by the Texas Legislature in 1973 and retains a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | steadfast commitment to innovative approaches that respond to the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | metropolitan environment; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The university now serves approximately 7,500 |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | undergraduate and graduate students from around the world; it |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | offers well over 100 baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral degree |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | programs in numerous schools, including the Barbara Jordan-Mickey |

| 18 | 18 | | Leland School of Public Affairs, named after two alumni who served |

| 19 | 19 | | with distinction in the United States Congress; and |

| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, TSU is noted for its Thurgood Marshall School of Law |

| 21 | 21 | | and its College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences; the university is |

| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Under the leadership of its 13th president, |

| 27 | 27 | | Dr. Lesia L. Crumpton-Young, TSU has redoubled its efforts to |

| 28 | 28 | | increase student success rates and academic rigor while expanding |

| 29 | 29 | | its research programs, enhancing its culture, and developing |

| 30 | 30 | | stronger relationships with Houston public schools, local |
|---|

| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, For nearly a century, Texas Southern University has |
