5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The life of a respected educator and softball coach |
---|
6 | 6 | | drew to a close with the passing of Randall Lynn Kight of Cypress on |
---|
7 | 7 | | February 12, 2023, at the age of 74; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in 1948, Randy Kight was the oldest son of James |
---|
9 | 9 | | and Betty Kight; he attended high school in Beaumont and went on to |
---|
10 | 10 | | graduate from the University of Houston, where he studied |
---|
11 | 11 | | journalism and played basketball; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, After earning his master's degree, Mr. Kight |
---|
13 | 13 | | embarked on a rewarding career as a teacher and coach that spanned |
---|
14 | 14 | | more than 45 years; he worked at Webster Elementary, Spring High |
---|
15 | 15 | | School, and Westfield High School, where he served as head coach of |
---|
16 | 16 | | the boys' varsity basketball team, before joining the faculty at |
---|
17 | 17 | | Cypress Creek High School; there, he took the helm of the girls' |
---|
18 | 18 | | varsity softball team, and over the course of his outstanding |
---|
19 | 19 | | tenure, he recorded 400 wins as head coach and guided the Cougars to |
---|
20 | 20 | | numerous district titles; in 2021, he retired after three decades |
---|
21 | 21 | | at the school; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Kight benefited from the |
---|
23 | 23 | | love and support of his wife, Kathy Fling, with whom he shared a |
---|
24 | 24 | | fulfilling union that spanned 32 years; he took great pride in their |
---|
25 | 25 | | five children, Lisa, Kevin, Lyndsey, Lori, and Kristi, and with the |
---|
26 | 26 | | passing years, he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to |
---|
27 | 27 | | include several beloved grandchildren; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Randy Kight |
---|
29 | 29 | | will remember the way he touched their lives with his kindness, |
---|
30 | 30 | | strength of character, and delightful sense of humor, and he leaves |
---|
31 | 31 | | behind a legacy that will long be treasured by all those who held |
---|
32 | 32 | | him dear; now, therefore, be it |
---|
33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Randall Lynn Kight |
---|
35 | 35 | | and extend deepest condolences to the members of his family: to his |

36 | 36 | | wife, Kathy Fling; to his children, Lisa Holub, Kevin Ward, Lyndsey |

37 | 37 | | Barfield, Lori Day, and Kristi Godfrey; to his grandchildren; to |
