44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The life of a respected educator and softball coach
66 drew to a close with the passing of Randall Lynn Kight of Cypress on
77 February 12, 2023, at the age of 74; and
88 WHEREAS, Born in 1948, Randy Kight was the oldest son of James
99 and Betty Kight; he attended high school in Beaumont and went on to
1010 graduate from the University of Houston, where he studied
1111 journalism and played basketball; and
1212 WHEREAS, After earning his master's degree, Mr. Kight
1313 embarked on a rewarding career as a teacher and coach that spanned
1414 more than 45 years; he worked at Webster Elementary, Spring High
1515 School, and Westfield High School, where he served as head coach of
1616 the boys' varsity basketball team, before joining the faculty at
1717 Cypress Creek High School; there, he took the helm of the girls'
1818 varsity softball team, and over the course of his outstanding
1919 tenure, he recorded 400 wins as head coach and guided the Cougars to
2020 numerous district titles; in 2021, he retired after three decades
2121 at the school; and
2222 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Kight benefited from the
2323 love and support of his wife, Kathy Fling, with whom he shared a
2424 fulfilling union that spanned 32 years; he took great pride in their
2525 five children, Lisa, Kevin, Lyndsey, Lori, and Kristi, and with the
2626 passing years, he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to
2727 include several beloved grandchildren; and
2828 WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Randy Kight
2929 will remember the way he touched their lives with his kindness,
3030 strength of character, and delightful sense of humor, and he leaves
3131 behind a legacy that will long be treasured by all those who held
3232 him dear; now, therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3434 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Randall Lynn Kight
3535 and extend deepest condolences to the members of his family: to his
3636 wife, Kathy Fling; to his children, Lisa Holub, Kevin Ward, Lyndsey
3737 Barfield, Lori Day, and Kristi Godfrey; to his grandchildren; to
3838 his siblings, Tami Williams-Sevier, Debbie McNeely, and Larry
3939 Kight; and to all who mourn his passing; and, be it further
4040 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4141 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4242 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Randy
4343 Kight.
