5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Students, faculty, and staff of Texas Tech |

6 | 6 | | University Health Sciences Center are celebrating 54 years as an |

7 | 7 | | independent university within the Texas Tech University system; and |

8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Launched in 1969 as Texas Tech University School of |
---|
9 | 9 | | Medicine, it was renamed Texas Tech University Health Sciences |
---|
10 | 10 | | Center in 1979 when it became a full-fledged health research |
---|
11 | 11 | | institution; throughout its history, TTUHSC has been a leader in |
---|
12 | 12 | | rural health care for the State of Texas; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Today, the university offers top-quality academic |
---|
14 | 14 | | and clinical education for the next generation of doctors, nurses, |
---|
15 | 15 | | pharmacists, researchers, and other health care professionals |
---|
16 | 16 | | while furthering its foundational mission of providing world-class |
---|
17 | 17 | | health care to the people of West Texas; TTUHSC is focused on |
---|
18 | 18 | | transforming health care through innovation and collaboration, |
---|
19 | 19 | | offering solutions that serve as models of care throughout the |
---|
20 | 20 | | state; the institution encompasses six schools, TTUHSC School of |
---|
21 | 21 | | Medicine, the School of Nursing, the School of Health Professions, |
---|
22 | 22 | | the Jerry H. Hodge School of Pharmacy, the Graduate School of |
---|
23 | 23 | | Biomedical Sciences, and the Julia Jones Matthews School of |

24 | 24 | | Population and Public Health, and it maintains campuses in Abilene, |

25 | 25 | | Amarillo, Dallas, Lubbock, Midland, and Odessa; and |

26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, TTUHSC educates students, provides patient care, |

27 | 27 | | and conducts biomedical and clinical research; the university |
---|
28 | 28 | | graduates the most health care professionals in the State of Texas, |

29 | 29 | | and it has been recognized as a pioneer in telehealth; having served |

30 | 30 | | hundreds of thousands of patients since the first telemedicine |

31 | 31 | | consult in 1990, the institution continues to lead efforts to |
---|
32 | 32 | | expand access to care in underserved areas; in addition, TTUHSC is |
---|
33 | 33 | | nationally recognized for innovative programs, academic |
---|
34 | 34 | | achievement, and cutting-edge research; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center has |

36 | 36 | | graduated more than 37,000 highly qualified health care |

37 | 37 | | professionals who are serving patients and driving medical |

38 | 38 | | discovery in tangible, life-changing ways in Texas and around the |

40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

41 | 41 | | Legislature hereby honor Texas Tech University Health Sciences |
