44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Proud residents of Pleasanton are gathering in
66 Austin on March 8, 2023, to celebrate Pleasanton Day at the State
77 Capitol; and
88 WHEREAS, Situated in Atascosa County at the juncture of the
99 Atascosa River and Bonita Creek, Pleasanton was founded in 1858 as
1010 the new county seat and took its name from early settler John
1111 Pleasant; though the county seat was moved to Jourdanton in 1910,
1212 the town continued to thrive, and it was officially incorporated in
1313 1917; over the years, it became a gathering place for cowboys
1414 driving cattle to Kansas and eventually adopted the moniker the
1515 "Birthplace of the Cowboy"; and
1616 WHEREAS, Today, Pleasanton boasts a population of nearly
1717 11,000 people and is known as "The City of Live Oaks and Friendly
1818 Folks"; the community is served by the Pleasanton Independent
1919 School District, which encompasses a primary, elementary, junior
2020 high, and high school, and it benefits from the educational and
2121 vocational opportunities provided by Coastal Bend College; local
2222 residents and visitors enjoy a number of annual community events,
2323 including Cowboy Heritage Days, Merry on Main, and a Fourth of July
2424 celebration; and
2525 WHEREAS, The citizens of Pleasanton are working to preserve
2626 the best of their past while building a future of expanding
2727 opportunity, and its citizens may indeed take pride in the role
2828 their community plays in the story of the Lone Star State; now,
2929 therefore, be it
3030 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3131 Legislature hereby recognize March 8, 2023, as Pleasanton Day at
3232 the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting
3333 delegation.
