44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The life of an admired public servant drew to a close
66 with the passing of Palmhurst mayor Ramiro Jose Rodriguez Jr. on
77 April 5, 2022, at the age of 68; and
88 WHEREAS, Born in San Juan on October 16, 1953, to Ramiro and
99 Elvia Rodriguez, Ramiro Rodriguez Jr. grew up with the
1010 companionship of five sisters, Gloria, Illiana, Eliseo, Mary, and
1111 Carol, and a brother, Frank; he graduated from Peacock Military
1212 Academy in San Antonio and earned his bachelor's degree in biology
1313 from Pan American University; and
1414 WHEREAS, Mr. Rodriguez distinguished himself through his
1515 service to the communities of McAllen, Mission, and Pharr, which
1616 included work for the Pharr city manager's office; he also pursued a
1717 25-year career in pharmaceutical sales for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals,
1818 Inc., during which time he earned top awards from the company as one
1919 of its most successful employees; and
2020 WHEREAS, After retiring from Wyeth, Mr. Rodriguez
2121 successfully ran for the office of mayor of Palmhurst; from 1999
2222 until his passing, he guided the growth of the small town into a
2323 thriving community, and some of his most significant achievements
2424 included overseeing the establishment of the city's first police
2525 department and municipal court and attracting major employers to
2626 Palmhurst, such as Walmart, H-E-B, and Walgreens, which have
2727 greatly added to the quality of life in the area; and
2828 WHEREAS, Along the way, Mr. Rodriguez shared his insight for
2929 four years as Region 12 director of the Texas Municipal League, in
3030 addition to volunteering his time on various other boards and
3131 committees; he was an advocate for small cities, and during the
3232 COVID-19 pandemic, he fought to ensure that they received a fair
3333 allocation of crisis funding; and
3434 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mayor Rodriguez enjoyed the
3535 love and support of his wife of 43 years, Elda Rodriguez, and their
3636 son, Ramiro; he was an avid bowler who competed in the Flamingo and
3737 Mission Valley Classic League for over 30 years, and he also held
3838 membership in the Knights of Columbus, St. Paul's Chapter, and the
3939 Rosicrucian Order; and
4040 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has left behind a legacy that
4141 will long resonate in the communities he served, and he will forever
4242 be remembered with deep affection by all who held him close to their
4343 hearts; now, therefore, be it
4444 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4545 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Mayor Ramiro Jose
4646 Rodriguez Jr. and extend sincere sympathy to his family, friends,
4747 and colleagues; and, be it further
4848 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4949 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5050 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ramiro Jose
5151 Rodriguez Jr.
