5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort |
---|
6 | 6 | | those saddened by the passing of Luis Angel Valls of Corpus Christi |
---|
7 | 7 | | on May 1, 2022, at the age of 94; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Luis Valls was born to Joseph and Lucrecia Valls in |
---|
9 | 9 | | 1928 in Sinton, and he grew up with nine siblings, Bessie, Andy, |
---|
10 | 10 | | Robert, Alma, Lily, Joe, Arnold, Ernesto, and Eddie; a proud |
---|
11 | 11 | | veteran of the United States Navy, he served during World War II and |
---|
12 | 12 | | the Korean War before his honorable discharge in 1954; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Returning to civilian life, Mr. Valls became one of |
---|
14 | 14 | | the first Mexican American members of the Corpus Christi Fire |
---|
15 | 15 | | Department; he served with the agency for nearly three decades, and |
---|
16 | 16 | | over the course of his career, he was recognized twice for valor; he |
---|
17 | 17 | | also had the distinction of responding to the first ambulance call |
---|
18 | 18 | | following the creation of the department's EMT program; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, A man of deep faith, Mr. Valls was a valued |
---|
20 | 20 | | congregant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church; he was |
---|
21 | 21 | | active with Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, |
---|
22 | 22 | | and the Corpus Christi Pan American Golf Association, and in his |
---|
23 | 23 | | leisure hours, he enjoyed playing golf, hunting, and studying |
---|
24 | 24 | | history; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Valls shared a rewarding union with his beloved |
---|
26 | 26 | | wife, Olga, for 64 years until her passing; he was the devoted |
---|
27 | 27 | | father of four children, Robert, Richard, John, and Rodney, and |
---|
28 | 28 | | with the passing years, he had had the joy of seeing his family grow |
---|
29 | 29 | | to include four grandchildren, Ashley, Kevin, Joseph Jacob, and |
---|
30 | 30 | | Mia, and two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Kensley; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Luis Valls fought courageously in defense of his |
---|
32 | 32 | | nation and then returned home to serve his community with equal |
---|
33 | 33 | | commitment, and all those who had the pleasure of sharing in his |
---|
34 | 34 | | love and affection will forever hold him close in their hearts; now, |
---|
35 | 35 | | therefore, be it |

36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
37 | 37 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Luis Angel Valls and |
---|
38 | 38 | | extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn his passing; and, be it |

40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
