44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort
66 those saddened by the passing of Luis Angel Valls of Corpus Christi
77 on May 1, 2022, at the age of 94; and
88 WHEREAS, Luis Valls was born to Joseph and Lucrecia Valls in
99 1928 in Sinton, and he grew up with nine siblings, Bessie, Andy,
1010 Robert, Alma, Lily, Joe, Arnold, Ernesto, and Eddie; a proud
1111 veteran of the United States Navy, he served during World War II and
1212 the Korean War before his honorable discharge in 1954; and
1313 WHEREAS, Returning to civilian life, Mr. Valls became one of
1414 the first Mexican American members of the Corpus Christi Fire
1515 Department; he served with the agency for nearly three decades, and
1616 over the course of his career, he was recognized twice for valor; he
1717 also had the distinction of responding to the first ambulance call
1818 following the creation of the department's EMT program; and
1919 WHEREAS, A man of deep faith, Mr. Valls was a valued
2020 congregant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church; he was
2121 active with Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars,
2222 and the Corpus Christi Pan American Golf Association, and in his
2323 leisure hours, he enjoyed playing golf, hunting, and studying
2424 history; and
2525 WHEREAS, Mr. Valls shared a rewarding union with his beloved
2626 wife, Olga, for 64 years until her passing; he was the devoted
2727 father of four children, Robert, Richard, John, and Rodney, and
2828 with the passing years, he had had the joy of seeing his family grow
2929 to include four grandchildren, Ashley, Kevin, Joseph Jacob, and
3030 Mia, and two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Kensley; and
3131 WHEREAS, Luis Valls fought courageously in defense of his
3232 nation and then returned home to serve his community with equal
3333 commitment, and all those who had the pleasure of sharing in his
3434 love and affection will forever hold him close in their hearts; now,
3535 therefore, be it
3636 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3737 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Luis Angel Valls and
3838 extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn his passing; and, be it
3939 further
4040 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4141 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4242 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Luis Angel
4343 Valls.
