| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Samuel Mathis of The University of Texas Medical |

| 6 | 6 | | Branch at Galveston is serving as Physician of the Day at the State |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Capitol on April 5, 2023; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The Physician of the Day Program provides for a |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | doctor from the Texas Academy of Family Physicians to be on call |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | each day of a legislative session as a resource for legislators and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | support staff; physicians travel from all over the state to |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | volunteer their time and expertise at the Capitol Health Services |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Clinic; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Samuel Mathis is an assistant professor at the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | UTMB Health Department of Family Medicine and the associate |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | director of the Medical Student Education Program; he also serves |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | as a physician at the UTMB Galveston Island East Family Medicine |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | clinic; a leader in his field, he holds a seat on the Texas Medical |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Association Board of Directors and is a former president of the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Galveston County Medical Society; he was honored as a Texas Monthly |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Super Doctors Rising Star in 2021 and 2022, and he received a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Galveston County Daily News 40 Under 40 Award in 2021; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Following his graduation from Baylor University, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Dr. Mathis earned his doctor of medicine degree from UTMB at |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Galveston in 2014; he completed training with the Memorial Family |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Medicine Residency Program in Sugar Land and with the UTMB Health |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Integrative and Behavioral Medicine Fellowship program; moreover, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | he is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his career, Dr. Mathis has |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | provided skilled and compassionate care to his fellow citizens, and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | it is indeed a pleasure to welcome this esteemed medical |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | professional to the State Capitol; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby commend Dr. Mathis for his participation in the |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Physician of the Day Program and extend to him sincere best wishes |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | for the future; and, be it further |
