| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Jerry King is retiring as president of Trinity |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Valley Community College on May 31, 2023, drawing to a close four |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | and a half decades of distinguished service to the institution; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A native of Commerce, Dr. King earned his bachelor's |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | degree in economics in 1973, his master's degree in business |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | administration in 1975, and his doctorate in education in 1986, all |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | from Texas A&M University-Commerce; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, This dedicated educator first joined TVCC in the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | 1970s, and over the course of his exemplary 45-year tenure with the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | school, he has served as a business and economics professor, dean of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Workforce Education, associate vice president of Workforce |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Education and Business Affairs, vice president of instruction, and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | chief instructional officer; since 2016, he has been TVCC's |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | president, and in that role he has earned the respect and admiration |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | of the college's faculty, students, and staff; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Dr. King has been a leader in his community as well; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | from 1995 to 2005, he served as mayor of Athens, and from 2008 to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | 2012, he was board vice chair of the Trinity Valley Electric |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Cooperative; he has also served as president of the Athens Noon |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Kiwanis Club, vice president of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the Henderson County United Way, and president of the East Texas |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Economic Development District and the East Texas Tech-Prep |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Consortium, and he has sat on the boards of the Texas A&M |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | University-Commerce Alumni Association and Workforce Solutions |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | East Texas, among other groups; his many honors include service |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | awards from his alma mater and the Henderson County Retired |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Teachers and recognition as Citizen of the Year in Athens; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Jerry King has served Trinity Valley Community |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | College with skill, dedication, and enthusiasm for nearly half a |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | century, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; now, |

| 36 | 36 | | therefore, be it |

| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Jerry King on his retirement as |

| 39 | 39 | | president of Trinity Valley Community College and extend to him |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further |
