66 WHEREAS, Many esteemed transportation professionals are
77 gathering in Austin on March 7, 2023, in celebration of Transit Day
88 at the State Capitol; and
99 WHEREAS, Each year, Texas transit agencies provide millions
1010 of passenger trips, enabling citizens to go to and from work,
1111 school, medical appointments, retail establishments, and other
1212 destinations; and
1313 WHEREAS, These agencies operate a wide range of systems,
1414 among them rail, fixed-route bus lines, park-and-ride service,
1515 downtown trolleys, harbor ferries, van pools, tourist trams, and
1616 special event transport; in recent years, they have expanded access
1717 for individuals with disabilities through paratransit service,
1818 accessible fixed-route service, and mobility improvements in the
1919 streets and sidewalks of their service areas; and
2020 WHEREAS, The numerous transit agencies across Texas have,
2121 since 1986, enjoyed the support of the Texas Transit Association,
2222 which promotes public transportation and advocates for its members
2323 in metropolitan, small urban, and rural areas alike; and
2424 WHEREAS, Mass transit is vital to the continued prosperity of
2525 the Lone Star State, and through their dedicated endeavors, transit
2626 agency personnel contribute immeasurably to the quality of life in
2727 the communities they serve; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
2929 Legislature hereby recognize March 7, 2023, as Transit Day at the
3030 State Capitol and extend to all those participating in the event
3131 sincere best wishes for an informative and enjoyable visit to
3232 Austin.
