| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Many esteemed transportation professionals are |

| 7 | 7 | | gathering in Austin on March 7, 2023, in celebration of Transit Day |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Each year, Texas transit agencies provide millions |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | of passenger trips, enabling citizens to go to and from work, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | school, medical appointments, retail establishments, and other |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | destinations; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, These agencies operate a wide range of systems, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | among them rail, fixed-route bus lines, park-and-ride service, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | downtown trolleys, harbor ferries, van pools, tourist trams, and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | special event transport; in recent years, they have expanded access |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | for individuals with disabilities through paratransit service, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | accessible fixed-route service, and mobility improvements in the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | streets and sidewalks of their service areas; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The numerous transit agencies across Texas have, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | since 1986, enjoyed the support of the Texas Transit Association, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | which promotes public transportation and advocates for its members |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | in metropolitan, small urban, and rural areas alike; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Mass transit is vital to the continued prosperity of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the Lone Star State, and through their dedicated endeavors, transit |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | agency personnel contribute immeasurably to the quality of life in |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the communities they serve; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 7, 2023, as Transit Day at the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | State Capitol and extend to all those participating in the event |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | sincere best wishes for an informative and enjoyable visit to |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Austin. |
