| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Two employees at the Bellaire Town Square Family |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Aquatic Center, Joshua Davis and Emily Heinzman, were honored with |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Lifesaving Awards from the American Red Cross after participating |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | in the rescue of two swimmers in June 2022; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The incidents, which involved a four-year-old boy |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and a nine-year-old girl, occurred within 10 minutes of one |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | another; the first child was hurt while attempting to jump from the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | pool's diving board, leading Mr. Davis, a lifeguard, to activate |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | his whistle to signal an emergency; Mr. Davis performed an |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | assessment of the victim before pool manager Emily Heinzman and the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | head lifeguard on duty took over, allowing him to return to his |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | post; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Joshua Davis once again took emergency action after |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | observing that another child who entered the pool, the second |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | victim, was struggling to swim; the lifeguard quickly swam to the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | child, who was at risk of drowning, and was assisted in rendering |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | aid to the victim by Ms. Heinzman and three additional lifeguards; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Davis, who is currently a student at Howard |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | University in Washington, D.C., received the Red Cross Lifesaving |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Award for his involvement in the rescue of both children; |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Ms. Heinzman was likewise presented with the Red Cross Lifesaving |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Award for Instructors in recognition of her role in training |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Mr. Davis; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Faced with back-to-back emergencies involving two |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | young swimmers, these individuals swiftly and skillfully |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | implemented the skills that they had learned in their training, and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | their heroic actions truly merit special recognition; now, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | therefore, be it |

| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Joshua Davis and Emily Heinzman on |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | their receipt of Lifesaving Awards from the American Red Cross and |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it |
