55 WHEREAS, Mother's Day is among the most cherished
66 celebrations in Mexican culture, and many Texans of Mexican descent
77 are observing El Día de las Madres on May 10, 2023; and
88 WHEREAS, Inspired by their neighbors to the north, Mexicans
99 began observing a Mother's Day holiday in the early part of the 20th
1010 century; the celebrations of Mother's Day in Mexico and in the
1111 United States bear many similarities, with children often
1212 presenting their mothers with gifts of candy, cards, or flowers and
1313 treating them to a special lunch or dinner; and
1414 WHEREAS, In some Mexican cities, it is customary for children
1515 to begin the day by serenading their mothers at their bedside, and
1616 some even engage mariachi bands to accompany them; many families go
1717 on to attend a special mass and community breakfast; regardless of
1818 the traditions that families embrace, the greatest gift of all is
1919 the precious time spent with loved ones; and
2020 WHEREAS, The bond of affection shared between mother and
2121 child is eternal, and Mother's Day offers a welcome opportunity for
2222 all to express gratitude to their mothers for the unconditional
2323 love, support, and wisdom that they have given them throughout
2424 their lives; now, therefore, be it
2525 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
2626 Legislature hereby commemorate Mexican Mother's Day on May 10,
2727 2023, and extend warmest best wishes to the Texas families who are
2828 taking part in this treasured occasion.
