| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Mother's Day is among the most cherished |

| 6 | 6 | | celebrations in Mexican culture, and many Texans of Mexican descent |

| 7 | 7 | | are observing El Día de las Madres on May 10, 2023; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Inspired by their neighbors to the north, Mexicans |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | began observing a Mother's Day holiday in the early part of the 20th |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | century; the celebrations of Mother's Day in Mexico and in the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | United States bear many similarities, with children often |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | presenting their mothers with gifts of candy, cards, or flowers and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | treating them to a special lunch or dinner; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, In some Mexican cities, it is customary for children |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | to begin the day by serenading their mothers at their bedside, and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | some even engage mariachi bands to accompany them; many families go |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | on to attend a special mass and community breakfast; regardless of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the traditions that families embrace, the greatest gift of all is |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the precious time spent with loved ones; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The bond of affection shared between mother and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | child is eternal, and Mother's Day offers a welcome opportunity for |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | all to express gratitude to their mothers for the unconditional |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | love, support, and wisdom that they have given them throughout |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | their lives; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature hereby commemorate Mexican Mother's Day on May 10, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | 2023, and extend warmest best wishes to the Texas families who are |
