| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Jennifer Wargo of The University of Texas MD |

| 6 | 6 | | Anderson Cancer Center is being presented with the Edith and Peter |

| 7 | 7 | | O'Donnell Award in Medicine from the Texas Academy of Medicine, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Engineering, Science and Technology in May 2023; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Established in 2006, the O'Donnell Awards annually |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | recognize Texas-based researchers who are addressing the essential |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | role that science and technology play in society, and whose work |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | meets the highest standards of professional performance, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | creativity, and resourcefulness; honorees are selected in five |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | categories, medicine, engineering, biological sciences, physical |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | sciences, and technology innovation, and each award includes a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | $25,000 honorarium as well as an invitation to present at TAMEST's |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | annual conference; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Jennifer Wargo is a physician and professor of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | surgical oncology and genomic medicine at MD Anderson Cancer |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Center, where she leads the Platform for Innovative Microbiome and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Translational Research; she is being recognized with an O'Donnell |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Award for her discoveries on the connection between treatment |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | outcomes and a patient's gut microbiome; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, An alumna of Gwynedd Mercy University in |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Pennsylvania, Dr. Wargo pursued her medical studies at the Medical |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | College of Pennsylvania and Harvard University; in 2008, she joined |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the faculty of Massachusetts General Hospital, where she |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | established a translational research laboratory with a focus on |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | better understanding response and resistance to treatment for |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | melanoma, pancreatic cancer, and other types of cancer; she was |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | recruited to MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2013 to help lead its |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Melanoma Moon Shot program; and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Jennifer Wargo's important research efforts |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | have made a lasting, positive impact in her field, and she is truly |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | deserving of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it |

| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 37 | 37 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Jennifer Wargo on her receipt |

| 38 | 38 | | of the Edith and Peter O'Donnell Award in Medicine from the Texas |
