55 R E S O L U T I O N
66 WHEREAS, Ariel Santschi has benefited the music
77 entertainment industry in Texas through his work as a filmmaker;
88 and
99 WHEREAS, A 2001 graduate of the radio-television-film
1010 department at The University of Texas at Austin, Mr. Santschi
1111 became involved in the entertainment business while producing a
1212 weekly music television series, "Pitch Control," for the UT
1313 channel; he recognized the dynamism of the state's independent
1414 hip-hop scene and began working with the Geto Boys, Devin the Dude,
1515 the 5th Ward Boyz, Yungstar, Lil' Flip, Big Moe, and other rising
1616 stars; and
1717 WHEREAS, Mr. Santschi sought to give greater exposure to such
1818 artists as DJ Screw and his Screwed Up Click collective, still
1919 underground sensations at the time; forming his own company, REL
2020 Entertainment, he produced music videos and full-length
2121 documentaries, among them "Soldiers United for Cash," a feature on
2222 DJ Screw filmed prior to his untimely death in 2000; and
2323 WHEREAS, After graduating, Mr. Santschi moved to Houston,
2424 where he was involved in the production of commercials, electronic
2525 press kits, videos, and documentaries for independent record labels
2626 in the city's ascendant hip-hop industry; his career eventually
2727 expanded into a wide range of areas, including corporate and
2828 commercial projects as well as television; over the years, he has
2929 created visual content for many educational and nonprofit clients,
3030 from Texas A&M and Rice Universities to NASA and the Holocaust
3131 Museum Houston; in addition, he has volunteered his services to a
3232 number of worthy causes; and
3333 WHEREAS, The preservation of popular music history is an
3434 endeavor that highlights the continued vibrancy of our state's
3535 entertainment industry, and Ariel Santschi has played an important
3636 role in helping to document the Texas hip-hop scene at a pivotal
3737 juncture; now, therefore, be it
3838 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3939 Legislature hereby honor Ariel Santschi for his contributions to
4040 the Texas music entertainment industry and extend to him sincere
4141 best wishes for the future; and, be it further
4242 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4343 prepared for Mr. Santschi as an expression of high regard by the
4444 Texas House of Representatives.
