6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Ariel Santschi has benefited the music |

7 | 7 | | entertainment industry in Texas through his work as a filmmaker; |

9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A 2001 graduate of the radio-television-film |
---|
10 | 10 | | department at The University of Texas at Austin, Mr. Santschi |
---|
11 | 11 | | became involved in the entertainment business while producing a |
---|
12 | 12 | | weekly music television series, "Pitch Control," for the UT |
---|
13 | 13 | | channel; he recognized the dynamism of the state's independent |
---|
14 | 14 | | hip-hop scene and began working with the Geto Boys, Devin the Dude, |
---|
15 | 15 | | the 5th Ward Boyz, Yungstar, Lil' Flip, Big Moe, and other rising |
---|
16 | 16 | | stars; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Santschi sought to give greater exposure to such |
---|
18 | 18 | | artists as DJ Screw and his Screwed Up Click collective, still |
---|
19 | 19 | | underground sensations at the time; forming his own company, REL |
---|
20 | 20 | | Entertainment, he produced music videos and full-length |
---|
21 | 21 | | documentaries, among them "Soldiers United for Cash," a feature on |
---|
22 | 22 | | DJ Screw filmed prior to his untimely death in 2000; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, After graduating, Mr. Santschi moved to Houston, |
---|
24 | 24 | | where he was involved in the production of commercials, electronic |
---|
25 | 25 | | press kits, videos, and documentaries for independent record labels |
---|
26 | 26 | | in the city's ascendant hip-hop industry; his career eventually |
---|
27 | 27 | | expanded into a wide range of areas, including corporate and |
---|
28 | 28 | | commercial projects as well as television; over the years, he has |
---|
29 | 29 | | created visual content for many educational and nonprofit clients, |
---|
30 | 30 | | from Texas A&M and Rice Universities to NASA and the Holocaust |
---|
31 | 31 | | Museum Houston; in addition, he has volunteered his services to a |
---|
32 | 32 | | number of worthy causes; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, The preservation of popular music history is an |
---|
34 | 34 | | endeavor that highlights the continued vibrancy of our state's |
---|
35 | 35 | | entertainment industry, and Ariel Santschi has played an important |
---|
36 | 36 | | role in helping to document the Texas hip-hop scene at a pivotal |
---|
37 | 37 | | juncture; now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
39 | 39 | | Legislature hereby honor Ariel Santschi for his contributions to |
---|
40 | 40 | | the Texas music entertainment industry and extend to him sincere |
---|
41 | 41 | | best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
---|
42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

43 | 43 | | prepared for Mr. Santschi as an expression of high regard by the |

44 | 44 | | Texas House of Representatives. |
