| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Officer Dana Thomasson of the La Marque Police |

| 6 | 6 | | Department received a commendation on January 9, 2023, in honor of |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | her role in rescuing a child who had gone missing during the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | December 2022 winter storm; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, On December 22, an Arctic front blew into Galveston |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | County, causing temperatures to plunge to the teens and low 20s; the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | frigid weather heightened the community's fears when a six-year-old |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | boy vanished while playing in his front yard on December 23, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | prompting the La Marque Police Department to launch an immediate |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | search around the area; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Officer Dana Thomasson, a member of the department |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | since 2017, volunteered with the search efforts, despite being off |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | duty that day; after going door-to-door and searching a number of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | yards, she spotted the boy sheltering in the bushes of a residence, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | bringing the nine-hour-long ordeal to an end; the boy was found to |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | be unharmed, much to the relief of his family and all those who had |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | worked tirelessly to locate him; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, By taking action to rescue a child in grave danger, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Officer Dana Thomasson helped to avert what could have been a |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | terrible tragedy, and she is indeed deserving of recognition for |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | her outstanding devotion to duty; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby honor Officer Dana Thomasson for assisting in |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | the safe return of a missing child on December 23, 2022, and extend |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | to her sincere best wishes for continued success with her important |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | work; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
