| 6 | 6 | | Terrell is celebrating its 20th anniversary as a freestanding |

| 7 | 7 | | institution on November 8, 2023; and |

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Established during World War II as part of the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Lend-Lease Act, the No. 1 British Flying Training School in Terrell |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | was one of six schools in the United States set up to support |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | England's wartime efforts by training pilots for the Royal Air |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Force; between 1941 and 1945, more than 2,000 pilots attended the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | school, and many of the British trainees formed lifelong bonds with |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the residents of Terrell, who welcomed the student pilots into |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | their homes and their community; each year, there is a Remembrance |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Day ceremony at Oakland Memorial Park to memorialize the 20 cadets |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | who passed away while training in Terrell; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The No. 1 British Flying Training School Museum was |

| 19 | 19 | | started by former cadets with the mission to honor the sacrifices |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | made by the pilots, educate citizens about the cooperation between |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Britain and America, and honor the connections made between the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | cadets and the people of North Texas; aviation enthusiasts, history |

| 23 | 23 | | buffs, and veterans alike are drawn to the museum's fascinating |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | holdings, which include artifacts, photographs, logbooks, aircraft |

| 25 | 25 | | models, training materials, equipment, uniforms, and other |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | memorabilia; initially housed at the Terrell Municipal Airport, the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | museum opened its location on Silent Wings Boulevard on November 8, |

| 28 | 28 | | 2003; and |

| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Since its founding, the No. 1 British Flying |

| 30 | 30 | | Training School Museum has celebrated a little-known chapter of |

| 31 | 31 | | World War II history while honoring the strong bond of friendship |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | between two great nations, and it is a pleasure to recognize this |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | important milestone in the history of the institution; now, |
|---|

| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 20th anniversary of the No. 1 |

| 38 | 38 | | extend to its volunteers, board of directors, and staff sincere |
