5	5	WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Association for Behavior
6	6	Analysis Public Policy Group are gathering in Austin on March 29,
7	7	2023, to celebrate TxABA PPG Day at the State Capitol; and
8	8	WHEREAS, The Texas Association for Behavior Analysis works to
9	9	advance the science and application of applied behavior analysis,
10	10	or ABA, a type of therapy that is considered an evidence-based best
11	11	practice treatment by the U.S. Surgeon General and the American
12	12	Psychological Association; and
13	13	WHEREAS, ABA is used to build a range of skills and reduce
14	14	problematic behaviors in individuals with autism, intellectual and
15	15	developmental disabilities, learning and communication
16	16	difficulties, brain injuries, physical disabilities, and
17	17	age-related infirmities, as well as in more typically developing
18	18	children and adults; it has been shown to have significant benefits
19	19	for clients in a variety of settings and to decrease the need for
20	20	special services; and
21	21	WHEREAS, TxABA is a state chapter of the Association for
22	22	Behavior Analysis International and an affiliate of the Association
23	23	of Professional Behavior Analysts; the organization serves as an
24	24	information resource for the general public, in addition to
25	25	professional behavior analysts; and
26	26	WHEREAS, During the 85th Legislative Session in 2017, the
27	27	Texas Legislature created licensure for board-certified behavior
28	28	analysts and assistant behavior analysts; the discipline of ABA has
29	29	grown substantially, and behavior analysis is now a robust field
30	30	with theoretical, experimental, and applied branches as well as
31	31	distinct research methods, scientific journals, textbooks,
32	32	scholarly and professional organizations, and university training
33	33	programs; and
34	34	WHEREAS, Thousands of studies published in scientific
35	35	journals have demonstrated the efficacy of many ABA procedures in
36	36	both clinical and nonclinical populations; the practice of ABA is a
37	37	distinct profession with well-established, widely recognized
38	38	professional and paraprofessional practitioner standards and
39	39	credentials; and
40	40	WHEREAS, Applied behavior analysts have excelled in their
41	41	efforts to enhance the quality of life for their clients while
42	42	promoting inclusion and acceptance, and the Texas Association for
43	43	Behavior Analysis merits praise for advancing the practice of this
44	44	important profession in our state; now, therefore, be it
45	45	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
46	46	Legislature hereby recognize March 29, 2023, as TxABA PPG Day at the
47	47	State Capitol and extend to members of the Texas Association for
48	48	Behavior Analysis sincere best wishes for an enjoyable and
49	49	informative visit; and, be it further
50	50	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
51	51	prepared for the association as an expression of high regard by the
52	52	Texas House of Representatives.
