| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, An inspiring couple known for their philanthropy and |

| 10 | 10 | | civic engagement, Kathy and Glen Gondo met as children in |

| 11 | 11 | | Watsonville, California, and married in 1973; a decade later, they |

| 12 | 12 | | settled in Houston, where they found success through a variety of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | entrepreneurial endeavors, including the city's first Japanese |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | restaurant, a sushi catering company, grocery-store sushi bars, an |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | international trade business, and an airline catering venture; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The Gondos are responsible for Japan Festival |

| 17 | 17 | | Houston, a popular annual event, and they have further contributed |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | to the Asian American community through involvement with the Asian |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Chamber of Commerce, the Asia Society Texas Center, and the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Japan-America Society of Houston; several other nonprofit |

| 21 | 21 | | organizations have benefited from their generosity, such as |

| 22 | 22 | | Holocaust Museum Houston, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the |

| 23 | 23 | | Hermann Park Conservancy; in recognition of his many |

| 24 | 24 | | accomplishments, Mr. Gondo was inducted into the Order of the |

| 25 | 25 | | Rising Sun by the Japanese government; and |

| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Kathy and Glen Gondo have proven themselves to be |

| 27 | 27 | | business and civic leaders of great vision and ability, and they may |

| 28 | 28 | | reflect with pride on their successful efforts to make Houston an |
