| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A life dedicated to the service of the Lone Star |

| 6 | 6 | | State drew to a close with the death of the Honorable Richard Lee |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Crawford of Amarillo on July 18, 2022, at the age of 71; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Rick Crawford was born in San Antonio on March 6, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | 1951, to Jack and Dolores Crawford, and he grew up with two |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | brothers, Michael and Steve Crawford, two stepbrothers, Johnny and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Scott Johnson, and a stepsister, Paula; he was raised in Fort Worth |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and Amarillo and graduated from Tascosa High School, where he was a |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | star player on the football team; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, An alumnus of The University of Texas at Austin, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Mr. Crawford was a devoted member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | and worked his way through college as a real estate agent; after |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | graduating in 1976 with a bachelor's degree in business |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | administration, he settled in Amarillo and embarked on a successful |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | career in commercial real estate; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In 1988, Mr. Crawford was elected to represent |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | District 87 in the Texas House of Representatives, and during his |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | two terms in the legislature, he co-sponsored and helped to pass a |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | number of business-friendly bills, including the Worker's |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Compensation Reform Bill, as well as the Wilson-Crawford Bill, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | which established the Texas Lottery; he was a member of the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | government efficiency, state affairs, county affairs, and public |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | safety committees, and he was vice chair of the public safety |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | subcommittee on budget and oversight; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Crawford went on to serve as special assistant |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | to House Speaker Pete Laney, and he represented the speaker on the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Texas Bond Review Board and oversaw the $192 million restoration of |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | the Capitol; in 1995, he was appointed as executive director of the |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Texas State Preservation Board, where he played a vital role in the |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | design and development of the $78 million Bob Bullock Texas State |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | History Museum; during his tenure at the preservation board, he |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | also oversaw the South Capitol Grounds Project and the |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | redevelopment of the Capitol's parking system; and |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, In 2003, Mr. Crawford resumed his career in |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | commercial real estate in Amarillo, and that same year, he married |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | his longtime love, Janis "JR" Wilson; the couple delighted in |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | spending time with friends and following the fortunes of the Texas |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | Longhorns; they were members of First Presbyterian Church, and |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | Mr. Crawford was also active with the Amarillo Association of |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | Realtors and other trade groups; and |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | WHEREAS, Rick Crawford lived a rich and purposeful life |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | devoted to his family, his profession, and his fellow citizens, and |
|---|
| 47 | 47 | | he leaves behind a legacy of service that will continue to inspire |
|---|
| 48 | 48 | | all those who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 49 | 49 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 50 | 50 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Richard Lee |

| 51 | 51 | | Crawford and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his |

| 52 | 52 | | family: to his wife, JR Wilson; to his brothers, Michael Crawford |

| 53 | 53 | | and his wife, Barbara, and Steve Crawford and his wife, Lynn; to his |
