5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Honorable Lynn Ellison retired as judge of the |
---|
6 | 6 | | 81st Judicial District Court on December 31, 2022, and his |
---|
7 | 7 | | exemplary tenure in that office marked a notable chapter in a |
---|
8 | 8 | | distinguished legal career spanning nearly five decades; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Lynn Ellison was first elected judge of the 81st |
---|
10 | 10 | | Judicial District Court in 2018, and after taking office in 2019, he |
---|
11 | 11 | | presided over numerous civil, criminal, family, probate, and |
---|
12 | 12 | | juvenile cases for the court, which serves Atascosa, Frio, Karnes, |
---|
13 | 13 | | La Salle, and Wilson Counties; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Judge Ellison earned his bachelor's degree from |
---|
15 | 15 | | Tulane University and his law degree from The University of Texas at |
---|
16 | 16 | | Austin School of Law; he began his career in 1974 as an assistant |
---|
17 | 17 | | city attorney in Austin, and from 1975 to 1977, he was an assistant |
---|
18 | 18 | | district attorney in Travis County; after a brief time in private |
---|
19 | 19 | | practice, he served in a range of state positions, including as a |
---|
20 | 20 | | committee counsel for the Texas House of Representatives, as a |
---|
21 | 21 | | staff attorney for Texas MHMR, as general counsel for the office of |
---|
22 | 22 | | the Speaker of the House, as a staff attorney for the Texas State |
---|
23 | 23 | | Ethics Advisory Commission, and as a special assistant for the |
---|
24 | 24 | | State Property Tax Board; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, In 1985, this respected attorney was hired by the |
---|
26 | 26 | | 81st Judicial District Court as an assistant district attorney, and |
---|
27 | 27 | | he went on to be elected as the D.A., holding that office from 1993 |
---|
28 | 28 | | to 2004; following nine years as an assistant attorney general, he |
---|
29 | 29 | | was appointed in 2013 as judge of the Atascosa County Court at Law, |
---|
30 | 30 | | where he served until his election as district court judge; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Judge Ellison has contributed to his professional |
---|
32 | 32 | | community as a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Atascosa County |
---|
33 | 33 | | Bar Association, and the Texas District and County Attorneys |
---|
34 | 34 | | Association, and he has served on the Special Prosecution Unit |
---|
35 | 35 | | Board; furthermore, he has given generously of his time to numerous |
---|
36 | 36 | | other organizations, including the Atascosa County Child Welfare |
---|
37 | 37 | | Board and the Atascosa County Law Enforcement Officers Association; |
---|
38 | 38 | | in all his endeavors, he enjoys the love and support of his wife of |
---|
39 | 39 | | 42 years, Janet, his daughters, Rachel and Gretchen, and his |
---|
40 | 40 | | grandchildren; and |
---|
41 | 41 | | WHEREAS, Lynn Ellison's dedication, expertise, and |
---|
42 | 42 | | commitment to justice have greatly benefited citizens across the |
---|
43 | 43 | | Lone Star State, and he may indeed reflect with pride on his many |
---|
44 | 44 | | achievements; now, therefore, be it |
---|
45 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
46 | 46 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Judge Lynn Ellison on his |
---|
47 | 47 | | retirement from the 81st Judicial District Court and extend to him |
---|
48 | 48 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
---|
49 | 49 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
50 | 50 | | prepared for Judge Ellison as an expression of high regard by the |
