5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Texas chapters of 100 Black Men of |

6 | 6 | | America, Inc., are gathering at the State Capitol in Austin on April |
---|
7 | 7 | | 4, 2023, and their visit offers a fitting opportunity to celebrate |
---|
8 | 8 | | the work being done by this outstanding organization; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, 100 Black Men of America was founded in New York City |
---|
10 | 10 | | in 1963, when a group of visionary leaders in business, politics, |
---|
11 | 11 | | and other fields came together to explore ways of improving the |
---|
12 | 12 | | quality of life in the African American community; today, the |
---|
13 | 13 | | organization numbers more than 110 chapters and over 10,000 members |
---|
14 | 14 | | across the country and around the world; guided by the motto "What |
---|
15 | 15 | | They See Is What They'll Be," these accomplished individuals are |
---|
16 | 16 | | presently enhancing the educational and economic opportunities |
---|
17 | 17 | | available to more than 125,000 minority youth; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Based upon the four pillars of mentoring, education, |
---|
19 | 19 | | health and wellness, and economic development, the organization's |
---|
20 | 20 | | programs seek to address the emotional and cultural needs of |
---|
21 | 21 | | African American children, to provide volunteer support to schools |
---|
22 | 22 | | and educators, to advocate in behalf of equal access to education, |
---|
23 | 23 | | to promote physical fitness and healthy eating habits, and to |
---|
24 | 24 | | empower African American individuals and enterprises through |
---|
25 | 25 | | training in financial literacy and networking; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Contributing to the advancement of this vital |
---|
27 | 27 | | mission are the members of 100 Black Men of America who are active |
---|
28 | 28 | | in the organization's Texas chapters, which represent Austin, |
---|
29 | 29 | | Greater Beaumont, Greater Dallas-Fort Worth, Metropolitan Houston, |
---|
30 | 30 | | San Antonio, and West Texas; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, For six decades, the members of 100 Black Men of |
---|
32 | 32 | | America have helped to set countless young people on the path to a |
---|
33 | 33 | | brighter future, and they are indeed deserving of commendation for |
---|
34 | 34 | | their myriad good works; now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby recognize April 4, 2023, as 100 Black Men of |
---|
37 | 37 | | America, Inc., Day at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting |
---|
38 | 38 | | Texas members sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable |
---|
39 | 39 | | stay in Austin; and, be it further |
---|
40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared |
