| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The retirement of Major Danny Williams from the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Dallas Police Department is being celebrated with a special event |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | in his honor on February 3, 2023; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Danny Williams is a 36-year veteran of the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | department, where he was hired in 1986; he worked as a patrol |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | officer and in youth operations and felony assaults investigation |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | before being promoted to patrol sergeant in 1997; after earning |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | another promotion to the rank of lieutenant in 2006, he held various |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | leadership roles in the department, which included serving as |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | commander of the S.W.A.T. Team, the Central Business District, and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the vice and gangs units; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Major Williams was elevated to his current rank in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | 2014, and he subsequently commanded the department's South Central |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Patrol Division, Field Services Division, and Criminal |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Investigations Bureau; one of his proudest accomplishments was his |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | leadership of the Northeast Patrol Division in the successful |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | collaboration with other city service departments to combat violent |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | crime in north Dallas during the summer months; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, A native of Holly Grove, Arkansas, Major Williams |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | earned his bachelor's degree in public administration from the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | University of Central Arkansas and his master's degree in criminal |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | justice from the University of North Texas; he is also a 2015 |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | graduate of the Caruth Police Institute and a 2018 graduate of the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | FBI National Academy, and he is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Fraternity, Inc.; in addition to his duties with the department, he |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | previously served as an adjunct instructor in criminal justice at |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | the University of Phoenix and Dallas College; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Through his leadership, professionalism, and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | commitment to protecting and serving his community, Major Danny |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Williams has greatly benefited the citizens of Dallas, and he may |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as he embarks on |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Major Danny Williams on his |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | retirement from the Dallas Police Department and extend to him |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |

| 41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
