44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The Baytown Police Department is mourning the loss
66 of a much-loved member of its unit, K-9 officer Lenin, who passed
77 away on March 9, 2023; and
88 WHEREAS, Born on August 26, 2020, in Hungary, the Maliherd
99 was assigned to Baytown K-9 Officer Hunter Kinzie; the duo
1010 completed training both in-house and at the Houston K9 Academy,
1111 earning certification in August 2022; Lenin was the department's
1212 first Explosive Ordnance Detection K-9, and he and Officer Kinzie
1313 conducted a number of large explosive sweeps in the Baytown area;
1414 and
1515 WHEREAS, In February 2023, Officer Kinzie and Lenin
1616 participated in a seminar in Dothan, Alabama; competing against 75
1717 other K-9 teams, they won the Top Bomb Dog Award and finished second
1818 in the Bomb Scramble contest and third in the Bomb Vehicles event;
1919 and
2020 WHEREAS, Although the death of this exemplary police dog has
2121 brought great sadness to many, K-9 officer Lenin will forever be
2222 remembered for the courage and enthusiasm with which he performed
2323 his duties as well as for the special camaraderie he shared with his
2424 handler and colleagues; now, therefore, be it
2525 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
2626 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of K-9 officer Lenin
2727 and extend sincere condolences to Officer Hunter Kinzie and the
2828 other members of the Baytown Police Department.
