5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Baytown Police Department is mourning the loss |

6 | 6 | | of a much-loved member of its unit, K-9 officer Lenin, who passed |
---|
7 | 7 | | away on March 9, 2023; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born on August 26, 2020, in Hungary, the Maliherd |
---|
9 | 9 | | was assigned to Baytown K-9 Officer Hunter Kinzie; the duo |
---|
10 | 10 | | completed training both in-house and at the Houston K9 Academy, |
---|
11 | 11 | | earning certification in August 2022; Lenin was the department's |
---|
12 | 12 | | first Explosive Ordnance Detection K-9, and he and Officer Kinzie |
---|
13 | 13 | | conducted a number of large explosive sweeps in the Baytown area; |
---|
14 | 14 | | and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, In February 2023, Officer Kinzie and Lenin |
---|
16 | 16 | | participated in a seminar in Dothan, Alabama; competing against 75 |
---|
17 | 17 | | other K-9 teams, they won the Top Bomb Dog Award and finished second |
---|
18 | 18 | | in the Bomb Scramble contest and third in the Bomb Vehicles event; |
---|
19 | 19 | | and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Although the death of this exemplary police dog has |
---|
21 | 21 | | brought great sadness to many, K-9 officer Lenin will forever be |
---|
22 | 22 | | remembered for the courage and enthusiasm with which he performed |
---|
23 | 23 | | his duties as well as for the special camaraderie he shared with his |
---|
24 | 24 | | handler and colleagues; now, therefore, be it |
---|
25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
26 | 26 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of K-9 officer Lenin |
---|
27 | 27 | | and extend sincere condolences to Officer Hunter Kinzie and the |
---|
28 | 28 | | other members of the Baytown Police Department. |
